A mirror is the substance
which has been deemed mystic for many old centuries and it symbolizes the
eternity. It reflected what is past today, it reflects what we have today and
it will show what will only appear in the future. Today interior designers have
a tendency to offer mirrors of any concept for any room when mirrors have no
longer their utility factor as the object to reflect only.
Simply speaking, mirrors
today are not only to look at to do makeup and hairdo or correct the clothes.
Mirror is the effective tool to intensify the illusion of light and space in
housing as well as hiding interior defects. A mirror is the perfect tool to
extend the borders for ever and ever even in the smallest room. The interior
design favors for mirrors when building any style without restrictions just
keeping the sense of harmony when the excess of eternity and infinity is also
too much in a space.
Mirror in the hall
A mirror in the hall is the
ordinary décor of the interior. It is best when placed in the immediate
vicinity of the entrance door or even above it. Such a designer trick can allow
extending the entrance space which is not that much in most urban apartments.
Mirror sliding-door
wardrobes are the best solution to accommodate in narrow halls when the
impression of parting walls is intensified when mirrors are equipped with
side-and backlighting.
Larger spacious halls also
have some nuances in regards to mirror location. Mirrors are oftenused as décor
elements at stairways in cottages. Such a designer maneuver as splitting the
space into scenes is also trendy when large mirrors of square or oval shape are
placed onto a single wall. Such a splitting is appropriate in the hall,
sitting-room, in bedroom and other functional premises to increase the sense of
space.
Floor and ceiling
Mirrored ceiling is one of
the adventurous solutions in interior design. Not every one finds pleasant and
enjoying to look upside down all the time. Such a designer approach is the best
for flats with low ceilings and it is reasonable. The mirror reflecting you is
the best scene than the heavy block of ceiling that goes over you.
When covering the ceiling
with mirror panels, only a few mirrors are enough to place instead of spreading
along the whole area. A few pieces of mirror surface and additional lighting
points inbuilt and that is all, the design is different from what we are used
to see everywhere.
Mirror framings are used
applied to floor, either. It looks unusual and fresh, though. However, authentic
mirror is not a good idea to use as a floor cover but the pseudo-mirrors which
are offered as thoroughly polished metal panels which shine perfectly to
reflect light. Floor mirror-like platforms are mounted in bathrooms or kitchen
where it is commonly covered with tiles. Shapes and types
The tradition to decorate
mirrors with massive and luxury framings has been forgiven and it is bad
manners actually for modern interior design. A trendy mirror has no framing at
all either it is framed but the framing is something like a hint not an object,
like a delicate aluminum band, narrow wooden furring or metal rod.
As for the mirror surface,
it comes as smooth as we are used to have and see, and painted in sandblasting
technique or silk-screen painting is used as the latest technology. Mirrors are
often made old artificially to add some value and prestige adding color hues.
Shapes are played around, either. So, square mirror plates are made from
smaller ovals of mirrors placed at an equal distance or several prolonged
pieces of mirror in a single frame. Such structures do not follow the purpose
to reflect the object but to create unique effect of light dispersion in the
space.
The most expensive mirror
in the world
The monarchs in Europe used to live in the plenty of mirrors around them.
Maria de' Medici, the Queen of France, once ordered 119 mirrors to decorate her
office with the reputed Venetian specialists. The 18th century was the time
when mirrors were the item of luxury and lavish life afforded by the wealthiest
only, then the Venetian mirror makers were happy to earn fortune on such
custom. They felt thankful to the Queen and they made a gift for her, a mirror
incrusted with agate, onyx and smaragd in the framing. Today Maria de' Medici’
valuable mirror is kept in the Louvre to be considered as the most expensive
mirror in theworld. According to some sources, the mirror is estimated for
almost ten million Euros.
