When John
Doulton, a plain potter, established a company in 1815 to manufacture tubes and
plumbing in Lambeth on the south-east of London,
nobody could expect that in somewhat 200 years the establishment will become
one of the legendary brands to manufacture china ware.
That was
difficult on the first stage, though. The company became the leading
manufacture to make the revolution in sanitation thanks to stoneware during the
reign of Queen Victoria
governed by his son, Sir Henry Doulton. The company was the first stone pipe
factory to lead in sanitary ware sphere.
Sir Henry
Doulton when proceeded to governing the company saved some more assets and paid
attention to the production of decorative items, and soon afterwards he
established one of the first artistic studio in Great Britain in 1860, the «Lambeth
Art Pottery».
John
Doulton worked with his son Henry to develop their family business, and their
portfolio was sooner completed with artistic pottery, ultimately embracing
commemorative, ornamental, and tableware products which made them more popular.
In 1871,
Henry had launched the Lambeth Studio with local designers and artists
who
experimented with a variety of materials and glazes in an industrial
setting.
In 1877 Henry Doulton bought a majority of shares at the factory at
Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent, a city known as The Potteries and home of
English bone china. Other famous potters that settled there were
Wedgwood,
Minton, Beswick, and Royal Adderly. Yet, the place turned into the
center for
potters, given its wealth of raw materials including clay for
earthenware, coal
to heat the kilns, as well as lead and salt for glazing they decorate
their
tableware with.
Ten years
later, Henry Lambeth became the first ceramist who was appreciated and pleased
by the royal attention and the Queen Victoria conferred the knighthood upon him
for the contribution into the development of science and artistic ceramics.
Afterwards the royal attention to the china company by Doulton was ensured, and
in the year 1901 the Kind Edward VII highly estimated the quality of Doulton
chinaware that was awarded the Royal Warrant and granting the company the honor
to use the word Royal to the name of the company.
In 1966 году Royal Doulton Company received another
royal award for the technical developments and contribution in china
manufacture. Therewith, Doulton left all other British ceramists behind. The royal
family has always remembered about the Royal Doulton Company and the King
George, Elizabeth II and the Princess Diane visited the manufacture from time
to time. The tableware by this company is used to serve the tables at royal palaces
presidential residencies and many collections are seen in Buckingham Palace.
Every set
of table ware is unique and original, as everything here in Britain. «Fusion
Platinum» possesses the innovative, special and confident peculiarities; it is
the elegant event to turn the dinner into the ceremony. The film of platinum and
vivid courage emphasizes the unique style of the collection, expressing cold
English style, though.
However, everything
may be removed and only the shape and whiteness of the genius English bone
china is left. And the set «Fusion White» was prepared in this way, exactly
following minimalism style.
The ceremonial
events require something very special. Thus, Royal Doulton Collection «Naples», where the bone
china strikes with the delicacy and neo-classic lines and monochrome pattern
amaze with their fine splendor and add the dinner some home elegance. The
tableware from this collection is wonderful and fits every occasion, especially
home holidays when the whole family reunions. The official functions are good to
use far colder tableware of silver and platinum color from «Naples Platinum»
collection.
We admit
that we need and use the tableware not only for functions and special events.
We eat every day, and every day we should use the ware to get satisfied
esthetically.
«Val d'Or» collection by
Royal Doulton is simple, on the one hand, and solemn, on the other hand, for
various events. The traditional snow-white bone china with the gold at the
edges is the luxury of simplicity on the table.
Once you
failed to find the tableware suitable for your taste and budget, pay attention
to two more reputed brands presented by the Royal Doulton trademark: Minton and
Royal Albert. Minton is thought to be the most famous china ware of the XIX century
and one of the most expensive among others. Hand painting and plenty of gold
makes every single plate a real piece of art work. Royal Albert presents old
good classic. The Old Country Roses Collection is one of the most demanded designs
for china ware (blooming roses, painting in gold). The Old Country Roses &
Chintz Collection is the chintz interpretation of the previous pattern when 22 carats
of gold is printed onto each piece of table ware. And finally, the Moonlight
Rose Collection makes us happy with the blue roses with the golden trimming, as
if roses full of moonlight decorate the table you serve for dinner.
