Emo-makeup: Show up your Emotions!

Wednesday, 10 March 2010

emo makeupRecently more and more young people, wearing strange pink and black clothes and flamboyant haircuts, appear called Emo. Who are they and what that want to do and express? Emo is a music tren actually that was created from peculiar mixture of punk and hard metal, spiced with new special elements of vocal. The music and songs are extremely emotional, with unwrap manifestations of bright, and often spontaneous positive, and deeply negative feelings.

What is really not excepted for Emo followers– it is the apathy and indifference of any kind. In the clothes, ornaments, accessories, and make up, Emo use mainly black and pink colors, expressing the intense emotions, hystery and tragedy. However the style allows other bright and “happy” tones instead of pink, it can be, for instance, green or lilac.

Emo-makeup resembles the Gothic face, with focus on the eyes, but in the Emo style the skin is not so deathly pale, and dark “Goth” eyes are combined with unexpectedly childish touches like colorful glitter, stars and hearts and shiny pink or lilac lips. This is the main trend, but you don’t have to limit yourself, and there are ways to underline your individuality and save the tragic tones of the make-up. Further you will find the basic techniques of classic Emo makeup, and you are free to experiment with different colors, not sticking just to the two pink and black colors. Since you keep to the tragic image and follow our recommendations you won’t get out of the style and no one would be able to blame you in too big zeal of following the fashion. So, get all the necessary make-up tools and start creating your unique Emo image.

You’ll need:

  • Foundation (a tone or two lighter than your complexion) or concealer and a sponge.
  • Face powder (optional)
  • Pink blusher.
  • Eye shadows of dark and neon colors and a small eye shadow brush.
  • Liquid or stick black eyeliner.
  • Black mascara
  • Lip gloss
  • And any kind of glitters.

To begin with, you should clean your face, preferably with some soft scrub, and apply moisturizer to prepare skin for the make-up. Then put on the liquid foundation or concealer with a sponge. Try to make the layer as thin as possible, so that skin would look ideal, but be sure to eliminate all spots and reddening, as it may spoil the tragic effect. You may leave the face pale, but better add some pink blusher on your cheek bone. If your skin is oily, you may want to apply a little face powder for more matte result.

Now as your skin is ready, start to paint tragic eyes. First of all, you should apply the eye shadows with the small brush. Use dark, not necessarily black, and contrast bright neon shadows. For better expressiveness use different colors on upper and lower eyelids. Very trendy, and at the same time within the limit of Emo style is the combination of green and violet. To give a smoky effect to your eyes put small amount of black eye shadow on an eyeliner brush and contour eyes making lines thinner at inner corner and thicker at the outer. Shade the lines a bit and remove flaws if any.

After you finish with the eye shadows you need to deepen the blackness and to add articulacy to your look. Draw thin but distinct lines with a liquid or a stick liner. Apply the liner as close to your lashes as possible. The line should be continuous, smooth and dark enough. Make sure the upper and the lower lines meet at the corners of your eyes and on the outside resemble cat’s eyes. But don’t make it too dark, you don’t want it look like Gothic.

Black mascara will finish the eye make up and make your look even deeper and more contrast. Apply mascara with light zigzag movements, to ensure every eyelash is colored and none stuck together. As the make-up is quite intensive there is no need for too long or dense eyelashes. Identify them with a few strokes of brush on each side, and don’t forget about lower eyelashes.

As you have done the eyes you finished the most difficult and important part of the makeup. The rest is much easier and won’t take much time and effort.

  • Accentuate lips with light pink or beige lipstick, but best of all – almost nude lipgloss. The lips shouldn’t distract attention from your eyes, which play the uppermost solo role in your image.
  • Some glitter in the corner of the eyes and/or on the cheek bones, stars and hearts would help to create your individuality and add dramatic accent.
  • Keeping in mind the above guidelines you will be able to create your perfect Emo makeup, and to finish I would like to add some tips for Emo-beginners:
  • Remember to always apply make up in a well lit place to clearly see all the lines you make.
  • Don’t overdo your makeup. In the art of makeup it is always better to apply a bit less than a bit more.
  • Have some facial wipes and a small makeup kit in your bag in case you’ll have to correct your makeup during the time you spend not at home.
  • And don’t be afraid to experiment and practice, but beforehand, so that you could enjoy your perfect image when it is important for you.
