The gothic
look won the popularity among young people in the nineties, and has held its
popularity for years, becoming a fully fledged subculture. The look of the Goth is dark and
mystifying. By the mid
to late 1980s, the Goth movement was waning. In the late eighties and early
nineties, a new, second generation of gothic bands emerged to breathe new life
into the scene.
The Goths were
primarily inspired by the Middle Age history, Celtic culture and vampire
stories. Goths are in favor of some
elegance and extravagance to some extent in their attires and cold stagy
makeup. And the Goth culture requires for special makeup.
Strong and straight
symmetry is not typical to gothic style. The makeup techniques involve subtle
to dramatic paleness as the foundation. The best way to apply white cream
foundation is to approach the face as a blank canvas to work with. The Gothic
makeup is strong enough thanks to contrast of pale face, artificial eyelash and
dark shade of lipstick. Whiteface makeup is applied to create the illusion that
you really are that pale, and not look like you have just plastered your face
with white paint. Goths use white powder or regular cosmetic powder that is
several shades lighter than the regular skin color to pull off the pale look. When
you are applying the base, try to make sure that you do it evenly, and don't overdo
it! Also try to smooth it into the entire face, don't just end it at the jaw
line, Goth makeup is great stuff, so try to use it responsibly! Black or purple
lipstick is popular with Goths, on the top of it black or dark-purple nail
polish will be appropriate to look like a real representative of Goth
subculture. To underline your eyes you'd better get soft eye pencil of black
color. Yet, you may use it to line your lips as well. They should be very expressive
also.
Make sure you
have Subtle Black or Deep-Purple Lipstick if you want your makeup Gothic and elegant
at the same time. You should be going for one of two types of look with
lipstick. Either subtle, or a high contrast. You may use blood-red colors since
if done properly your lips will look good enough for real Goth. Trying dark colors
and distinguishing against the crowd, Goths want to look splendid but not horrible
like Halloween figures.
Considering
eye-shadows, apply some white shadows on the upper lid as the base and
dark-grey or black shadows to make your eyes more expressive. Compact, powder
or liquid shadows are good enough to use. Liquid eyeliner is also good for
Gothic makeup since it does not run and you can wear your makeup all the day
long.
False
eyelashes help your eyes look more open and deep. Non-black eyelash but of
various colors may look impressive unless you find it uncomfortable for
everyday use. Otherwise, use classic mascara of good quality. Currently they
are marketed in a plenty of types and colors and differ from mascara to
mascara, for sensitive eyes, thin eyelash and exclusive types of mascara to
make your natural eyelash look thicker and longer. Black color of hair so
typical for Goths should not contrast with the color of your mascara, so blacks
are the best solution. Blue or Violet color mascara will look very attractive
and eye-catching. There are loads of gothic hair dyes out there, and the ways
in which you use them may vary a lot depending on your own hair color. If you
have very dark hair naturally then you may need to lighten or bleach it
slightly in order for lighter colors such as reds, greens or blues to show
through.
Many men, many
minds. And there are several Goths who again prefer using professional theater makeup.
Though regular use of such heavy makeup is harmful for the skin, even if it is
Goth's skin. Apart from makeup, Goths observe other attributes typical and
binding to them, in particular specific behavioral philosophy, special trends
and face piercing. Though, not all Goths, particularly girls, are ready to have
faces pierced. They opt for other ways to decorate faces, as with special
on-glue stresses or spangles. You know Gothic makeup is not only for female Goths.
Male Goths also like wearing this makeup for everyday use and for various
functions and events. Though, guys, bear in mind that «less is better than more»
in regards to cosmetics.
