The word «oriflame»
translates as «golden flame». The flame, however, breathes chilly northern winds,
because Oriflames Cosmetics comes from Sweden, noted for the harshness of both
its climate and people. The company was founded in 1967 by the brothers Jonas
af Jochnick and Robert af Jochnick. They wanted to create a cosmetics company
that offered a kind of skincare that was different from what was available at
the time: one that was based on natural ingredients and could be distributed
directly to everyone's home.
Knowing

the founders set out to formulate skincare products based on natural

Time to
reach customers in the Eastern Europe came only with the fall of the iron curtain
in the early 90's when the company sales have increased by 5, and the brand became
one of the fastest growing direct sales companies in the world. Thanks to the
direct sales method, job opportunities had arisen for thousands of people and
since 1990 80,000 cosmetics consultants have joined Oriflame worldwide.
In 2007,
Oriflame celebrated its 40 year anniversary worldwide and today it is more
prosperous than ever. Oriflame has more than 600 products in its portfolio,
which are manufactured in Poland, India, Sweden and Russia, and each year the
company distributes over 94 million catalogues in 35 languages.
The
company's success and long-term growth allows it to help those who need it
most. Oriflame is one of the founding members of the World Childhood Foundation
(WCF), established by Queen Silvia of Sweden in 1999. Her aim is to ensure the
right of each child to a peaceful and safe childhood and to improve the living
conditions of those who are at risk. Over the course of five years Oriflame has
contributed over 2 million Euros to a number of the Foundation's projects and,
in addition, Oriflame supports various local charitable projects in countries
where it has branch offices.
Research,
new technology and strict testing are equally important. Oriflame has its own
research and development centre in Dublin, Ireland. Known as the Global
Technical Centre (GTC), it ensures that cosmetics are continuously improved and
guarantees that no products contain an ingredient whose use would be in conflict
with regulations in the European Union or the United States. Oriflame products
are not tested on animals - if it is impossible to carry out tests with
volunteers, in vitro tests are used.
