«12 dresses
made from new material but not feasible to wear», that was the name of the
collection launched by Paco Rabanne in 1966 for the Fashion Week in Paris. And that was true.
A young designer presented his first collection of metal dresses. The dresses
were tailored in metal, and sewed with the help of pliers and blowlamp. And
what about the public? It was definitely shocked. And what about Paco? He was
acknowledged among the fashionable designers of Paris. In the same year, 1966, Rabanne
launched another collection of dresses made from...what do you think?... paper.
The idea was the trigger point for other designers and the world perceived that
the clothes may be disposal. And it mattered.
The
architecture world lost the genius while the fashion world gained him. Paco Rabanne
studied at the National School of Art at the Architecture Department. He was
skillful enough to make various fashion stuff like accessories and buttons to
pay for his study. Rabanne's mother worked as the chief assistant to Cristobal
Balenciaga and Paco supplied his collection items to Balenciaga House that
formed his taste and mentality in the beginning. He quit to work with
Balenciaga House and started to create handbags, jewels and belts for Hubert de
Givenchy, Christian Dior, Ive Saint-Lorant. And only a step parted him from the
world fame, and that was creation of his own clothes in 1966.
Coco Chanel
called Rabanne «metallurgist» exactly for the dresses to weld not sew. In spite
of the intricacy of dresses to wear in the everyday life, the design of the
fashion dresses had a great impact on the fashion on the whole. Rabanne managed
to combine the things that were considered non-matching before he launched his
collection, like metal and organza, plastic, aluminum and leather, ostrich
feathers and fur. Rabanne presented mini garments from many color chains and metal
laces, weaved with paper bands, antenna hat, fabric with prints, fabric
embroidered with precious stones, this was the newest breeze in the fashion
haute couture world where a rare person may get astonished or
surprised with what can happen with them. Rabanne made his collection
astonishing.
The public
was amazed to the extent that the unique designer models were used in cinema in
show-biz artists. Françoise Madeleine Hardy, Jane Fonda, Audrey Hepburn and
other celebrities of Hollywood
featured in costumes created by Rabanne. Such beautiful ladies as Ursula Dilere,
Sylvie Vartan, Patricia Kaas and Brigitte Bardot wear Rabanne's dresses and
enjoyed them.
The designer
tried holographic fiber and organic glass in 1988 and set to production of
laser discs. He stated that «in the day time the clothes should reflect the
business life on high speed. In the evening it should emphasize the grandeur and
femininity of the Goddess», and used glittering and shining reflecting and
microcrystal materials to achieve the right effect.
Nevertheless,
Rabanne is a good designer to think of true and live people also, and sometimes
his collections are really to use. The fragrances he presented to public from
1969 won the heart of ladies. «Calandre» (from 1969) with the charming note of cypress,
«Paco Rabanne Pour Homme» and the flankers in 1973, «Metal» (from 1979), «La Nuit» (from 1985), «Sport» and
its flankers (from 1986), «Tenere» (from 1988) and so forth. In 1993 he created
the scent for men - XS (Excess Pour Homme), which was positioned as the perfume
for beloved and sensitive man. Till up to date this scent is in the top of
bestsellers of cologne for men.
Paco
Rabanne House would create and launch furniture, table ware and even tablecloth
and since 1989 the House produces the pret-a-porter line for women and since
1990 - for men since women are the priority for Rabanne and he once declared on
his creation «I re-collect my memories on beautiful women from other
civilizations»).
On the top of
it, Paco Rabanne is seriously engaged in occultism. He studies so thoroughly
and adheres to it so seriously that he makes predictions. They are not
realized, though. For example, Rabanne predicted that the orbital station «MIR»
would fall onto Paris
and some other European countries on August 11, 1999. The couturier states that
he predicts «events that should not come true». «I tell people on what they can
change», says Rabanne. He tells that his grandma was like a «shaman», «she knew
the nature secrets», and that she was the person who taught him the occult
sciences.
In addition,
Paco Rabanne is a writer, yet, his book «End of Time» is the story on the world
conspiracy and on what to anticipate in future. When the World War III occurs, the
planet protected by four elements will take revenge in earthquakes and tsunami,
and planes are not able to fly since the air will not hold them any longer.
Fire will avenge also for the humankind spoilt and contaminated all other
environment. This is the response of the planet to our actions».
Paco Rabanne
is a painter. In October 2005
in Moscow
he exhibited his works named «Paco Rabanne from Inside». Till this time the
paintings of the designer were estimated by Salvador Dali only. He supervises the
restoration process of one of the historical buildings in St. Petersburg, and couturier showed the
skills he gained as an architect. This person is rich in gifts from nature.
Currently
Paco Rabanne comes to the end of his career in the world of fashion and
delegates his authority to Veronika Jeanvie who is his «spirit daughter», to
his words.
