A name who works in the line of knitted fabric
is Sandra Backlund. In knitwear, Backlund has discovered herself niche turning
the garment into a piece of art. Her designs are great example of great
combination that blends traditional techniques with new aesthetics. Having
contemporary exciting outlook and crafting styles, Backlund's «slow fashion»

Sandra Backlund could be simply called
nothing but a real «artist designer». This fashion designer appears with
different look in the realm of vogue world. She gives a new outlook in knitted
clothing. Backlund's knitwear collections bear sometimes incomprehensible
designs and sometimes sculptured fantasy. She showed a lot of collections in
different times. Among them, the «Don't Walk» held some excellent collections
which comprised completely with red knits.
Her business is with the creation of
fascinated designs by heavy wool. Each of her designs is handmade but kept
higher level of artistic skills. Most of the Backlund's designs, however, go
with traditional silhouette ringing different looks and styles. Her passion is
to keep pace with creative line and eye-catching shapes as well.
Backlund made her exceptional by her
incomparable sculptural knit works. The wool as well as alpaca garments that Backlund

It
is called Backlund's fashion approaches are more like a sculptor rather than a
tailor. The Swedish knitwear designer is fascinated by all the ways like
highlighting, distorting and transforming the shapes of body with garments. She
discovers some particular styles and shapes especially that she personally
wants. And the reason why she is familiarized as a fashion sculptor rather than
becoming merely a tailor.
Having the title «Pool Position», Backlund's
exclusive sculptural knits collections were displayed in the London Fashion
Week last September 08. The Swedish designer's collections were really
astonishing to see. The pieces were crafted with the manner of artistic way.
So, Backlund's creations identified her not as a fashion designer but a
sculptor indeed.
Backlund even acknowledges that her works
are very personal to her where practical things are not always appeared with
her designs. However, her unusual designs were come into sight in many weekly
and fortnightly magazines like Italian Vogue, Nylon, i-D etc.
Despite Backlund's work does not go with
practical day wear, her designs proved it how slow fashion could uphold
traditional techniques blending new aesthetics.
And if you look at Backlund's personal life
you see, it is a little bit surprise indeed for Sandra Backlund to be a fashion
designer as she studied earlier fine arts, textile and then art history. And
finally she turned herself into a fashion world. Backlund enlisted her name at
the Beckman's School of Design placed in Stockholm. However, her diversified
background has been guided her to create intricate works, beautifully designs
in the line of vogue.
Most interestingly, Backlund confesses she
is an extremely hard working woman who is inspired by the moments, stories from
her own life. And the funny thing is that Backlund's childhood dream was to be
a hair stylist. And if he would not be a fashion designer, she considered
herself being an owner of vintage store.
She was very much fond of art, crafts and
photography before entering the designing realm. Though she is not confirmed
what particular thing persuaded her to be a fashion designer but she decided to
enter into fashion world when she was just nine. People like Azzedine Alaia, is
a fashion idol to Backlund who approach fashion as an expression of art rather
than commercial reason.
Backlund's work is fully aesthetic. Using
warm and woolly garments, she explores human form through her fashion works. To
seek lively shapes, she said that she consciously dresses the parts of the
body.
As Backlund exceptionally made her fashion
items, so customers may find the garments four times more price than any other
pieces available in the stores. And whatever the prices are, customers can find
through Backlund's collection not only the garments of art but also handmade pieces
that hold innovativeness and trendy mood.
The knitwear designer was given many
prestigious awards. And for the first time, she was given NewGen sponsorship by
The British Fashion council in 2009.
