The
progenitors of all cells, organs and tissues of the human organism are two cells:
male gonocyte and female ovicell, which merge and form a zygote, from which as
a result of development, a human being emerges. After a week's development, zygote
is a blastocyte consisting of a membrane covering the liquid. The liquid contains
a lot of non-specific cells (which received the name of stem cells). These stem
cells later form organs and tissues that' why they are called totipotent (or
omnipotent) meaning able to develop into any mature cell type.
The discovery
of stem cells has made quite a stir in medicine. Many diseases which earlier were
considered to be incurable, are successfully treated by means of stem cell-based
therapy.
A vast mass
of stem cells can be found in the umbilical cord of a newborn, and many modern cryocenters
offer their services on blood sampling and preservation of the cells of
newborns.
In adult human,
the main source of stem cells generation is bone marrow, a minimal amount of them
are found in all organs and tissues of an adult.
How do they
work?
Stem cells have
a remarkable advantage as they can develop into many different cell types in the
body, including cells of hematopoietic, nervous and cardio-vascular systems, endocrine
organs, bone, cartilaginous and muscular tissues. Acting in the locus of injury
or disease, the stem cells recreate damaged cells of any organ and tissue, restoring
the body to normal, healthy condition. This ability of stem cells has become the
basis for their therapeutic use.
Methods of
stem cells therapy
The basic method
of stem cell therapy which currently exists is the injection transplantation.
With the
help of modern medical technologies it is possible to grow stem cells. These cells
can be cultivated from the minimal amount of cells available: later they are transplanted
into circulatory system, and they spread out in the damaged tissues and organs.
They are injected directly into the problem area to enable the omnipotent stem
cells.
Sphere of
stem cells potential use
Stem cells are
widely used in treatment of wide variety of diseases; injection of these cells allows
successful treatment of the diseases of:
- cardio-vascular
system: chronic heart diseases, heart attacks and their complications;
- immune system:
autoimmune diseases, Crohn's disease, myasthenia;
- skin: psoriasis,
eczema, dermatitis, neurodermatitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, burns and other
skin injuries;
- nervous system:
neuralgia, infantile cerebral paralysis, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, Raynaud's
disease, neuromuscular diseases;
- endocrine
system: diabetes mellitus of type II and its consequences;
- locomotor
system, bones and cartilaginous tissues: osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis,
arthroses, degenerative disc disease, coxarthrosis;
- ophthalmologic
problems;
Stem cells are
also used for cosmetics purposes. Injected stem cells cause rejuvenation in tissues,
the skin structure restores, metabolism improves, and the appearance of skin
improves. By using stem cells one may easily remove scars, false keloids, burns,
skin pigmentation. Very often rejuvenation is a side effect of stem cells therapy.
Despite the
fact that a variety of diseases can be treated by this method, there are a number
of illnesses which are not cured by stem cells therapy. These include insulin-dependent
diabetes (Type I), cataract, glaucoma, neoplasms and cancer.
Stem cells:
illusions and myths
Profiting
from the ignorance of the general public, some cosmetics firms and clinics offer
services which have nothing to do with the stem cells effect. Among other things,
it is breast augmentation, removing deep wrinkles, weight reduction,
eliminating extra fat deposits. Injections of stem cells are of no use for these
purposes, these omnipotent cells are able to develop into different types of cells
(muscular, bone, and even nervous tissue) and restore the damaged areas but
they have no noticed cosmetic effect.
Stem cells are
non-specific cells of definite type which promote regeneration of organs and tissues;
they cannot augment volume or eliminate extra fat.
The results
of different researches show that the formula of extensively promoted rejuvenating
compound Stwolamin does not contain stem cells.
