Daruma Taiso
is a special system of exercises known from ancient times. It combines elements
of yoga, health improving Chinese gymnastics Do-in and Oriental martial arts. The
tradition says that in VI century AD Teacher Bodhidharma has arrived to Shaolin
monastery. Travelling from India to China, Bodhidharma (Daruma in Japan) has
gained abundant knowledge on martial arts and secrets of breathing techniques.
He incorporated all his spiritual philosophy and his knowledge and re-established
the techniques he had learned, added some of his own, and created a special
complex of exercises and shared it with Shaolin monks. Later this exercises' series
that had to be done in slow tempo, combined with breathing gymnastics, was
refined by the Teacher.
In 1977 Toshio
Tamano arranged Daruma exercises and united them into the integral complex
named Daruma Taiso. These practices help to strengthen the body, synchronize the
functioning of all the visceral organs and encourage the proper flow of Ki energy
(or Tsi). Daruma Taiso practice comprises the elements of yoga, Do-in gymnastics,
and shiatsu, breathing techniques, self-defense skills, weight control
gymnastics, massage and other things. All this makes the program really unique;
it may be practiced by people of any age and any health condition. The complex helps
to achieve practically any aim - be it health improvement or weight loss, control
over one's body and spiritual and physical harmony.
Daruma Taiso
is a holistic exercise program that may be practiced instead of regular every-day
workout or a complex aimed to stretch and warm-up the muscles before any sport
activities or single combat. When properly performed, the exercises of Daruma Taiso
can effectively and progressively work over the whole body. Daruma Taiso provides
safe and natural technique suitable even for those who have never done any
exercises and had no previous training. The diversity of techniques makes the complex
enjoyable and interesting. Slow and gentle or swift and dynamic movements performed
individually or together with other person, in upright or sitting position -

endurance, and gives energy and vitality. This complex stimulates metabolism, helps
to reduce fat deposits and remove cellulite. By normalizing the flow of vital power
Ki (Tsi), Daruma Taiso helps to eliminate blockings in different parts of the
body which may cause pains and provoke the development of various disorders.

one of the major components of this practice. Ability to relax increases concentration
power, teaches contemplation. Besides, exercises of Daruma Taiso help to improve
self-esteem develop assertion and self-confidence. Daruma Taiso is the best training
practice to resist stresses of life, because the exercises help to relax, get
away from the troubles, feel one's body and invigorate spirit.
Daruma Taiso
restores a man to his natural state as the exercises resemble the movements and
habits of animals. All the muscles are worked out in such an easy and natural way;
on the other hand the exercises are not boring. You want to exercise time and again;
you get used not only to feel but also to like your body, every part of it. The
effectiveness of this activity depends much on the professionalism of the
master who teaches the beginners to move and control their bodies and thoughts.
Right breathing, relaxation and performance of Daruma Taiso are the matter of time;
they depend on student's persistence and eagerness and not only on the
qualification of the teacher. With simple repetition of exercises you gradually
move to another level - a level of understanding your own body. Eventually, you
begin to feel not only your strength and power, but the energy that flows into
you with every other breath.
