Grigori Perelman
is known to be the most intelligent though awkward and weird person in the
world. He is too annoyed with the issue of financial wealth to ask to leave him
alone when fees to receive are discussed. Grigori Perelman offered the logical justification
for so-called millennium problems to stay the mystery for the whole humankind.
The way he behaves is not comprehensible to be explained by any existing exact
sciences.
The Millennium Prize Problems come as
seven math problems stated by the Clay Mathematics Institute in 2000 to be
awarded US$1,000,000 prize by the institute for any solution and only Grigori
Perelman was able to solve the Poincaré conjecture but later he refused from
the award. The point of the Poincaré conjecture is that any three-dimensional
space without holes can be equaled to the protensive sphere. As the scientists suppose
the evidence offered by Perelman allows the clear view of the shape of the
Universe since it is the very three-dimensional sphere. In theory it is able to
collapse it to a point and extend back. Therefore, the evidence of Poincaré
conjecture proves the other scientific theory that the Universe originated from
the dot as a result of the unknown Great Blust.
Grigori
also called Grisha was born in 1968 to the family of the electrical engineer
and math teacher to be the unique and awkward child to distinguish against his
friends and peers. He comes from Saint
Petersburg. It was when Grisha was eleven years old
when he felt keen on math, the Queen of Sciences. He was a regular visitor of
the Center of Mathematics for the Gifted Children. That
school of unique talents was headed by the associate professor of the Russian
State University of Pedagogics Sergey Rukshin. He recommended that Perelman be
accepted by the special secondary school N 239 with the advanced mathematics
and physics programs.
Grigori Perelman
was first acknowledged when he was fourteen, as a member of the USSRBudapest.
He felt free to cope with all assignments of the competition with an ease.
However, Perelmanexcelled in every school discipline.
The teachers predicted the
gold life after the school though he failed to pass the exam on physical
education. As a perfect child of prodigy, Grigori excelled in music either, and
he as quite a good tennis-player. team at the International Mathematical Olympiad,
an international competition for high school students, when he was awarded a
gold medal for the excellent scores in
Then he
became the student of the Leningrad
State University
to be accepted as one of the best gifted students of the University to be
awarded the Lenin Scholarship (grant for gifted students). After he graduated
from the University, he continued to earn his Candidate of Science degree (equivalent
to the Ph.D. in Russia).
His dissertation work was known as Saddle surfaces in Euclidean spaces. For some
time Perelman was employed as the senior research officer at the Leningrad
Department of Steklov Institute of Mathematics of the USSR Academy of Sciences,
and then he lectured for seven years at various US Universities. He used to amaze
his American colleagues with some of his habits. In particular, he neglected
every food except for bread, cheese and milk.
In the
early 90s Yakov Perelman, the father to the young mathematician, immigrated to
Israeli while his mother, Lubov Leybovna, was left in Petersburg living in a
small one-room flat. Tat time Grigori was traveling in America. He had
the chance to immigrate together with his father though he preferred to come
back to Russia
and stay with his mother. The genius mathematician never attempted to have his
own family and he never had love affairs at all. Till 2005 he worked for the
Steklov Institute in Saint Petersburg
but he suddenly left and isolated himself from all his former colleagues.
The mathematician
posted online his thoughts related to the Poincaré conjecture signed as Grisha
Perelman. The scientific society exerted the attention to his works and in 2006
he was awarded the Fields Medal for his contributions to geometry and his
revolutionary insights into the
geometric structure of the Ricci flow. He was invited to the formal
Award Ceremony to Madrid.
Perelman failed to go there, though the facilitators undertook to solve all
transport issues. As he stated, «I am not concerned by money and fame. I do not
feel like being exposed to public as an animal in the Zoo. I am not wealthy and
successful to the extent to be stared at».
When
Perelman was awarded a One-Million Prize for his contributions into the
mathematics, very hot debates were initiated online in regards to
Grigori’s
intentions to how to dispose with money. Grigori refused to take the
fortune. He threw the society into the great shock since
the world society was aware that Perelman lives in poverty with his
mother. Theinformation was received from his immediate neighbors to be
true.
His flat is full of insecticides,
the rooms were not done for many years and the two confine themselves to
an old
bed, a table and a chair. It was obvious that the money could have
changed his
life for better. However, Perelman lives a life of an expatriate on
voluntary
base and no single negotiator managed to talk to him.
Him and his
mother are fine with what they have and they never opt for million dollars and
world fame for the sake of their happiness.
