It is known for recent years that the rate of Russian billionaires yields to that value in the US in only digits. And that’s not news. The word «billionaire» is still attributed to oligarchs who became legendary in the late 90s. In spite these people are known from long ago and many of them appear in various life spheres, new oligarchs appeared in the market of billionaires.
Vladimir Lisin – metallurgist
Vladimir Licin holds the major share of stock in Novolipetsk
Metal-Making Complex as the wealthiest Russian with the capital
estimated $24 bln. Vladimir Lisin was born on May 7, 1956 in
Ivanovo town, Russia. He started his work as an electrical
fitter in 1975. Lisin studied at the Siberian Metallurgic Complex
majoring in Engineering of Metallurgy graduating in 1979.In 1998 Lisin
was elected Chairman at the Board of Directors of Novolipetsk
Metal-Making Complex JSC. In July 2002 Lisin was elected to the Board of
Directors of the Mining and Metallurgical Complex «Norilskiy nikel». On
November 24, 2005 the Novolipetsk Metal-Making Complex announced on the
date of securities issue and lodge at the London Stock Exchange. The
shareholders’ interests were mentioned with the share of to be almost
90%. That capital was estimated to be $8 bln by that time.
Aleksey
Mordashov - steel-maker
Aleksey Mordashov, CEO at «Severstal» JSC and
«Severstal-group» CJSC, was in the top two with the capital rated $18.5
bln. Aleksey was born on September 26, 1965 in Cherepovetsk town,
Russia. In 1988 he completed the civil engineering faculty at the
Leningrad Engineering and Economical Institute and was awarded a diploma
with honor. Since then Aleksey worked at the Cherepovets Metal-Making
Complex and in 1992 he was assigned as the Finance and Economics
Director. Since 1993 he privatized the company naming it «Severstal»
JSC. He owned almost 96% of the capital interest of the enterprise and
in 1996 he was elected company CEO. Aleksey Mordashov is concerned in
ore mining, automobile, woodworking industry, banking, insurance,
transport and mass media.
Mikhail Prokhorov and Vladimir Potanin – nickel sphere
Mikhail Prokhorov is one of the most reputed billionaires in Russia
today who owns $18 bln. He is mainly interested in «Oneksim» Group.
Mikhail was born on May 3, 1965 in Moscow, Russia. After the army
service, Mikhail went to study and in 1989 he graduated from the State
Finance Academy. Within 1989-1992 Prokhorov worked at the International
Bank for Economic Co-operation, and in 1993 he was appointed «Oneksin
Bank» President.In 1998 he was elected the Board of Directors member of
the «Interros» holding company merging «Interros», «Norilskiy nikel» and
«SIDANKO» groups. In July 2001 he was elected CEO and President of the
Mining and Smelting Company «Norilskiy nikel» JSC. Since 2008 he is the
President of the Russian Biathlete Union. In 2010 Prokhorov acquired the
major share of stock of the Basketball Club of the National Basketball
Association New-Jersey Nets.
Vladimir Potanin is Prokhorov’s ex-partner.
Today Potanin is more interested in charity though he still owns the
capital rated $17.8 bln. Vladimir Potanin was born in January 3, 1961 in
Moscow, Russia. In 1983 he graduated from the Economics Faculty at the
Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs majoring in international
relations expertise. Since 1983 Vladimir did for the Ministry for
Foreign Affairs in USSR and in 1990 he changed for the International
Bank for Economic Co-operation. In the end of 1992 Potanin was elected
President for «ВАО“Interros”» JSC and in the end of 1994 he was put in
the chair of the BOD of the «Interros» financial industrial group. In
1993 Potanin leaded the «Oneksin Bank» Company. When in January 2007
«Interros» co-owners announced on reorganisation, Prokhorov and Potanin
failed to negotiate and agree on transaction provisions. Only in
September 2010 the two billionaires managed to solve all their claims to
each other.
Roman Abramovich – football fan
Roman Abramovich takes the
ninth position in the Russian Billionaire Rating with the capital
estimated $13.4 bln today, yielding to Oleg Deripaska (16.8 bln),
Mikhail Fridmann (15.1 bln), Vagit Alekperov (13.9 bln). Though it is
him who is associated with the Russian oligarch. Roman was born On
October 24, 1966 in Saratov town, Russia. Within 1991 to 1993 he managed
the small business in Moscow dealing in commercial and intermediate
activity, as well as oil-product re-sale. In 1995 Abramovich partnered
to «Sibneft» taking the 20th place in the global oil production rating.
He got the controlling interest in it for lower price. On December 24,
2000 Abramovich was elected Governor in Chukotka. In summer 2003 he
acquired Chelsea, the British Footbal Club.In March 2006 Roman’s
partners registered Millhouse Capital Investment Fund in Russia which
brought around 36% shares in Evraz Group. Currently Abramovich is the
Chairman of Duma (House) of the Chukotka autonomous area.
