Being a living legend of the workd cinematography, Sophia
Loren must have agreed to the saying that happiness is not all money. However,
she is one of persons who absolutely admit that assets you own is the perfect
tool to cope with many problems and misfortune. It is widely known that Loren is
the stage name of this actress and Sophia Scicolone paved her way to fame and
wealth too long and that was not easy.
An actress was born in September 1934 at the Roman hospital for
the poor and homeless and the further life for the girl was predicted to be unenviable.
The fame and happiness were never included in the list of things anticipated for
her as well as the love of millions of fans all over the world and funny consent
made by one of the cardinals in Vatican to make the exclusion out of rules and cause
to clone this wonderful woman. The most likely life for the homeless girl who
was not acknowledged by her father was poverty. She was given the name of her father,
Scicolone, with some difficulty almost illegally since the father wanted
nothing to do with his newborn daughter. Sophia never though to shine with beauty
and get famous since her unique look caused her classmates call her a beanpole
and she never dreamt of being a celebrity.
The year 1960 is famous for the even happened to turn the
life of Sophia upside down as well as the history of Italian and world
cinematography. A sixteen-year old girl took a part in the beauty contest by
the recommendation of her mother in Naples. The jury of the contest appeared to
be perspicacious to mark the appearance and look of the promising young girl.
She did not win though she took the second place and the
special prize for participation. And then the star-to-be was given her first
award. Today it sounds ridiculous but she received a kitchen set of a table
cloth and napkins, several rolls of wallpaper, 23 thousand lira equivalent to
the amount of 40 US dollars and a ticket to Rome. However, that was the
triggering point for Sophia to her career in the cinema which allowed her
earning good money in future. And that free ticket to Rome was the first step
in the ladder to the celebrity status, since Sophia had no money even to get
the ticket by herself.
It is discussed in the society that very soon Sophia Scicolone
changed her name for Loren at her producer insistence, Carlo Ponti, who she
married to later. As for her earnings in the cinema, that was not the major
article in her financial statement to live. The point is that Sophia Loren
ceased her acting career in the late 70s and she then accepted rare offers to
star in movies mainly in TV projects. Yet, the fabulous fees by the actress
turned to be incredible for the last twenty years only. The celebrated actress
did earn good money in her previous years surely as compared with the income of
the rest of the population to sound incredible. However, Sophia never earned
unbelievable money as an actress. So, Loren earned 200 thousand US dollars when
she featured in Pride and Glory (from 1957).
Being a celebrity of the world level, the actress earned dough as compared with
Hollywood requirements. So, she acquired 750 thousand USD for El Cid (from 1961)
and Man of la Mancha
(from 1972), and a million of USD for the movie The Fall Of The Roman Empire (from
1964).
Thus, the major investment in the current wealth of the actress
estimated for about 240 million dollars (including villa in California and the
permanent residence in Switzerland apart from cash assets in banks) was
contributed by her late spouse, a producer Carlo Ponti who died in early 2007. The
fact that Ponti was a successful producer is proved by the wealth inherited by
Sophia Loren and children, and also due to his collaboration with such
cinematography classics as Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Vittorio de
Sica and others. Moreover, Ponti appeared to be the perspicacious connoisseur
of art thus Sophia Loren is free to live a lavish live at ease at the status of
a widow. So, a month after the death of her husband, an actress put to auction a
painting of the famous British painter Francis Bacon. The painting was sold for
the record amount of 28 million US dollars incredible for Francis Bacon works.
