We face
lots of celebrities in our life, from sportsmen to politicians, artists to
actors. Nevertheless, there are persons who became legendary to spell their
names with breathing. And their names are rather of public than personal
value. So, when saying Bruce Lee while describing a person, we want to
accentuate their physical abilities and merits. When a person is called a
Schumacher, it refers to quick and perfect driving ability. When we say Disney,
it causes all associations with cartoons on the whole and sometimes some people
get surprised to know that a real person lived some time ago named Walter Elias
Disney.
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago to Elias
Disney, of Irish-Canadian descent, and Flora Disney, of German-American
descent, in Hermosa community area. In 1906 the Disney family decided to live
in a quiet place than in a bigger and developed country and they moved to the
farm in Marceline, Missouri and then to Kansas-city. So, Walter spent his
childhood in the rural area where he showed his liking for drawing. Elias
Disney was a real worker, he worked as a carpenter, and then the construction
contractor and he treated the humanitarian activity as something minor and miserable.
So, he disdained the new ardor of his son to object it strongly. Moreover, the
family did not dispose funds to purchase pencils, paints and papers. Therefore,
the first paintings were made by the tar on the wall. When one of his neighbors
paid Walter for his drawing of a horse on a piece of paper, Walter came to the
idea to, William also developed his worship for trains in Marceline, due to its
existence to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to ran through town.
In 1918 Walter Disney joined the American Army and was sent
to the French Theater of War Activity of the World War I. he was, though,
rejected then as underaged and dispatched to serve as a ambulance car driver
for the Red Cross. On returning to Kansas-City in 1919, Disney was hired as the
creative manager of the commercial studio where he created commercials along
with the a cartoonist named Ubbe Iwerks. Walter dreamt about Hollywood and in
the soonest time he left for Los-Angeles which seemed to be not so much
hospitable as for all newcomers, though. His works were not demanded at studios
he applied to. Then he was hired as an extra in one of movies though it was
discovered later that the episodes with him were planned to reject. And that
triggered the idea for Walter to create his own endeavor. Thus, in 1923 the
cartoon studio named The Walt Disney Company appeared which will make its
founder one of the most known people in the world to the time he dies, and his
brainchild will become one of the chief structures in the world show-business
with over a hundred of movies and 26 Oscar Awards.
The story of Walter Disney-businessman is not less captivating
as the story of success of Disney-animator, director, producer and a story of a
person possessed with cartoons. Walter used to say that he loved Mickey Mouse
more than women. Today The Walt Disney Company has the income of many billions
USD, but it was initiated when Walter expropriated an old deserted shed from
his uncle Robert in Los-Angeles, added his assets of 40 USD, involved his
brother Roy to his endeavor, who was just discharged from the military hospital
with the remaining 250 USD. The other 500 USD was borrowed. And this money was
used to start the way to great cinema. Immediately they faced the reef of
show-business when in 1927 the partnering studio stole their first carton
character, the smart and successful rabbit Osvald. The Disney brothers kept on
moving forward obtaining the governmental order to make educational films. In
the soonest time they created the new character, a mouse originally called
Mortimer, but later on it was christened Mickey Mouse by Lillian Disney. The
success of Mickey Mouse became the financial life belt which helped Disney
climb the ship named Success.
The next big project of the studio, the cartoon Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs, cost one and a half million USD for the studio to make
which is incredible for the budget allocated for cartoons of that time, and
three years of work. That project brought fame to Disney and around 200 million
USD to the Company. And every other single project of the Company was
profitable. However, Disney
felt like creating something global and Disney drew sketches of his ideas for
an amusement park where he wanted to see his employees spending time with their
families. The idea developed into a concept for a larger enterprise become
Disneyland and in 1955 in
California
the first park was opened to cost 17 million USD and that repaid expenses and brough
higher higher than expected. After the death of the founder, The Walt
Disney Company surrendered positions to some extent while in the middle of 80s
the Company was re-structurized and new marketing strategy was introduced.
Since then the Company put efforts to actively penetrate the market of
cinematography and the sphere of entertainment on the whole. It resulted in the annual revenue of the
Company came to approximately 25 billion USD to he beginning of the new century
and the personnel increased in number over 100 thousand people. Yet, Walt Disney always stated that he never created
films to earn money, bur he earned money to create films. However, he and his
successors manage to match these and benefit.
