Diamond is the King among all precious gems from the
time immemorial. Its exceptional hardness, wonderful riot of colors and
brilliant glittering prove the regal features of the diamond. Thereare so
many legends
around diamonds.
In the past people would believe that diamonds are
mined by enormous eagles. Among all other stones the diamond has its
exceptional and unique niche.
The name of the stone is believed to mean ‘adamos' from
the Greek word ‘insuperable' that was transformed into ‘adamant', later
‘demant' and ‘diamant'. The mixture of the Arab language with the Greek brought
the new sound to the name changing ‘adamos' for ‘almas'.
Diamonds are available in nature in various colors
from transparent to white-blue, pink, yellow, brown and even black. Such colorful
diamonds are called fancy diamonds.
All diamonds irrespective of the color are believed to
bring luck to bearers. Lapidario (science on stones) of XVI century states that
‘A human should wear the diamond on the left side of the body when the gem acts
favorably. The diamond brings hardness and courage to the bearer and secures
human parts of body'. The diamond allows the person win the enemies when and if
the bearer is right. The diamond gives and retains hearing acuity, prevents from
revelry, sorrow and magic, fancy and evils. Should any magician feels like
enchanting the diamond bearer, then all grief and failure will come back to the
magician. No wild animal dares to attack the diamond bearer. The diamond makes
the person more serious and heals from somnambulism. The diamond is more
powerful when it is owned voluntarily, without violations and coercion. Though
it often occurs that the diamond loses its power due to sinfulness and intemperance
of the bearer.
It can be the reason why lots of diamonds would bring failure
and often death to their owners due to sins and lack of self-restraint. Thus, the
legendary diamond Sancy or Regent owned by Maria-Antoinette brought only
failure and death to her.
The most amazing among the diamond is the black
diamond. It is widely believed that black diamonds come from outer
civilizations, yet, they are created from meteorites and particles of interplanetary
space that fell on the Earth billion years ago.
The black shade of these diamonds is extraordinary.
The shade is the mix of cold brilliance of white diamonds with the deep night
darkness. The black color comes from plumbago insertions. Moreover, it is said
that such stones are diamonds in the most active phase of formation after which
they become white.
The most reputed black diamond is the 88-carat black
Korloff Noir diamond shrouded in mystery, but according to legend seems to have
originated in Russia,
and owned by several generations of the Karloff-Sapozhnikov family, from whom
the diamond gets its name. It seemed that the stone brought luck to the owners
and the Korloffs left Russia
after the Revolution in 1917. Theymanaged
to save
all their
treasures including the black diamond.
In 1920 the diamond was sold in Antwerp and within the whole ХХ century it changed the owners until in 1978 it was
bought by the French jeweler Daniel Pailasser. That was the
break for
the diamond.
Pailasser founded his own Jewelry House called Korloff
and the gem became the symbol of the House.
Korloff Noir is the only black diamond that has been
cut. The original rough diamond is said to have weighed 421 carats, but the
final product was only 88 carats in weight, resulting in an enormous loss of
333 carats. Such enormous losses are quite common in black diamonds as one
usually comes across porous material that is fragile and difficult to work
with. Moreover, it has 57 facets while the Korloff Jewelry House has a patent
to such faceting.
Two unique diamonds appeared a few years ago in Byelorussia.
The diamonds were of 18 and 72 carats of weight. The facet was styled under XVII
century, as classic ‘Antwerp
rose'. The smaller size diamond was of deep black color while the bigger one
has more mace shade. The stones were confiscated
within the procedures done by the law machinery and in spite of the Swiss
certificate and examination by the Byelorussian jewelers; the stones were
announced as fake. The jewelers were not so confident that the diamonds were
false, though. In official documents the diamonds were presented as mussanit,
an artificially grown stone. The withdrawal of stones flashed in mass media and
disappeared. And the amazing black diamond did the same.
The black diamond has a drawback though. It is thought
that this stone diffuses annihilation radiation and requires some magic
activity from the owner. The consequences may be unpredictable if the owner
fails to obey the fluids of diamonds.
