Emerald
is a magnificent top class gemstone. Emeralds are often even more beautiful and
more expensive that diamonds. Emeralds' deep green colors, those of the spring
greens, of life and harmony appeals to everyone. One can't stop but look at the
gemstone.
It
is believed that emeralds bring luck to those with sinless souls and spotless
minds. Otherwise emeralds' owners can get cursed as emeralds can also bring bad
luck. Emeralds bring luck to priests, mages and prophets. A ring with this
green crystal helped a well-known augur Nostradamus to see the future. Nero, an
emperor who had eyesight problems, could not enjoy the gladiator fence-plays
without his monocle made from an emerald.
There
were many legends going on around this kind of gemstone. One of them says that
when Satan was thrown down to hell an emerald from his crown was lost. Queen
Saba's jewelers found the gem and cut a large precious cup out of the large
emerald. The cup was later presented to King Solomon by the queen. The cup
later was used by Christ at Last Supper and now is known as the Grail. The
Grail was lost and generations of knights and crusaders to come were
desperately trying to find the artifact. It was believed that the cup made the
owner immortal, however, it was never found.
Emeralds
are concerned to be the kind of gems that are usually transferred from parent
to child in the families. When propagated the gemstone bring its owner help,
support and knowledge needed in difficult situations. To make this rare mineral
one's talisman one should wear it on a little finger.
Natural
emeralds are extremely rare therefore their price is very high. Emeralds are
usually sold at the price of ten thousand pounds sterling per one karat (which
is around 0.2 grams). Gems that have historical value or jewels and mounted
gems with emeralds in there can cost even more.
Some
tribes believe that emeralds have spiritual energy in them therefore Indian
emeralds are usually engraved with sacred texts and spiritual ornaments. One of
such emeralds called «Mogol Emerald» and was found in 1695. Its weight is of
217 karats, the height is ten centimeters. This outstanding gemstone was bought
by an anonymous buyer at «Christie's» auction house in 2001. The price was
twenty two hundred billion dollars.
Legendary
emerald gems include five outstanding Peruvian emeralds which were presented by
Fernando Cortes to his wife. This present offended the queen of Spain, Isabel,
who had always wished to get the gemstones. Every emerald of the five had an
extraordinary form. First was of the form of a rose, another of the form of a
bell with a pearl inside of it, third one was of the form of a sacred fish with
golden eyes, fourth emerald looked like bull's horns and the fifth emerald, the
most beautiful of them all, was used to create a cup framed with gold. In the
year 1541 the treasure was lost. Some believe that the treasure is now a part
of some billionaire gem collection. It might have also been taken back to Peru
to reunite it with another of the unique and sacred Indian gemstone «Emerald
Goddess». The emerald was of the size of an ostrich egg was sought by Spanish
settlers and Indian priests were hiding it in safe places from those.
Another
couple of legends and stories about unique emeralds are deeply connected to
royal families all over the world. Juicy green «Devonshire Emerald» was mined
from a mine of Muso in South America. It has a form of a six-sided prism. It is
five centimeters wide and five centimeters tall. The gemstone weighs thirteen
hundred eighty four karats (which is three hundred and four grams). For a long
time the emerald was owned by Brazilian emperor Pedro the First. Later the gem
was presented to duke of Devonshire. From time to time «Devonshire Emerald»
takes part in Birmingham and British museums' exhibitions.
A
unique emerald found in Urals in 1993 in Russia that was later called «President»
was never seen at an exhibition. It weighs twelve hundred. If the «President»
would ever be sold at an auction house it most likely still won't be seen by
anyone.
Jewels
containing emeralds have had a place in the aristocratic family treasures for a
long time now. Queen Victoria's engagement ring was decorated with a marvelous
emerald, whereas queen of England Elizabeth the Second still uses a jeweled garniture
decorated with the green gemstones.
A
unique brooch of Queen Eugenia made in a form of a hummingbird and skillfully
decorated with emeralds and diamonds is considered an outstanding work of art.
Nowadays
a platinum earrings set decorated with Columbian emeralds of cabochon style cut
and diamonds is being negotiated about to be sold at «Christie's» auction house
by David Morris' jewelers-house. Combined weigh of those luxurious emeralds is
67.88 karats. The approximate price that is still negotiated about would be 2.3
million dollars.
In
2008 a Swiss jewelers-house «Adler» which created gemstones and jewels for many
famous people and which items are being worn by most prosperous people
announced a new collection. «Adler's» sophisticated items have an elongated
form. Emeralds usually are the center of the design of the jewels. Earrings and
rings are decorated with emeralds all over the place. They are harmonically
blended with other gemstones like diamonds, sapphires and rubies. It is hard to
describe the charms and the quality of the collection by «Adler» where the
emeralds are the key feature and the most interesting part in these works of
the real art.
A French jewelers-house «Mauboussin» is
well-known for its magnificent jewels made from emeralds that are so popular by
Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo.
Emeralds
were the favorite gemstones of a famous actress Marlene Dietrich because she
believed that there is no gem that would suit a blonde lady as good as the
green crystal. Answering the question of why she wears «Maubossin's» jewels the
actress replied that the gemstones make her feel better that the others. Today
there is a photo of Marlene Dietrich wearing two beautiful arm-wrists decorated
with cabochon style cut emeralds that is located at a slightly place at
Maubossin's boutique at Vendome square.
A
unique, magnificent emerald fills its owner with unknown powers and strengths
and if you are lucky enough to be presented with this green crystal then
speaking the language of the gemstones, the gift would mean a wish of success
and a statement of love.
