Timex Corporation, watch manufacturing company, is currently one of the reputed brands
in America: this is № 1 Watch Brand in USA, Canada, Great Britain and Mexico. This company
is in the list of Top Five World Biggest Companies, and this is regardless of
the fact that it hardly
survived the crisis of quartz watches at the time whereas the majority of Swiss watch maker companies did not. However, this is not an obstacle

This company
history dates back over 150 years ago, since 1857, in Waterbury town,
State of Connecticut. It was the time when «Waterbury Clock» was specialized in
manufacture of table and wall watches. Watches manufactured in were supplied
both to domestic market of America and to European, as well, and by that time
it won popularity among many people. To the beginning of XX century «Waterbury Clock»
Company expanded the production and produced wrist watches under the «Ingersoll»
brand name. Considering small watches for nurses, the company masters
sophisticated them and adjust the wristlet to them to keep the time. Thus, watchmakers
of «Waterbury Clock» invented the idea of wristwatches, in parallel with the
Swiss masters.
This company
won the world's popularity and fame thanks to creating the first clock with the
little Mickey Mouse with his hands pointing the time under license from Walt
Disney.
Nevertheless,
many other cartoon characters also took their places with «Waterbury Clock» but
it was watches with the world-known Mouse that were replicated for more than
million units. Yet, it was the first watches in the world manufactured in this
amount.
In 1941, two
Norwegian expatriates, Joachim Lemkul and Thomas Olsen bought «Waterbury Clock»
and they used to manufacture wick timers during the war, and it was very
beneficial for the company that it expanded significantly. Yet, after the war the Norwegian businessmen decided
not only to deal with watches manufacture but the watches available and
accessible to the wide layer of consumers, that is with cheaper but the
accurate and reliable mechanism. And in 1949
they implemented their idea and in 1951 the name «Timex» was first introduced,
and by 1960 «Timex» became the bestseller in USA.
During the hard
time of Quartz boom development, «Timex» Company tried to do their best
marketing the new demand from consumers. And by 80s, the company masters discovered
a new niche for their products and accented in issue of watches for sport purposes.
Mass passion for the sports developed a real boom in this sphere, however, regardless
that electronic watches totaled the half of the watches market of that time,
they failed to be fully functional and well designed. And «Timex» Company
provided the market with the same, when they manufactured the first watches for
runners «Triathlon», and soon after a line of «Ironman».
Comfortable
and attractive design was developed by «Times» personal inventions. And in 1992
this company was the first to supply the new technology of the face luminous
from inside - «Indiglo» light, and later on it improved the watches with
another function - night light regime. The watch makers of this company developed
«i-Control» system in 2000, which was very simple to select the desirable
regime and set ups of the watch at ease. Yet, it is possible to simply turn the
outer ring round the face, and also by pulling and rotating the winder.
The company
achieved progress on a regular base, and currently the market is presented by comfortable
sporty, classic and children models of a small price, convenience, good design,
reliability of mechanisms and latest developments of the company. Thus, over
80% of the entire watches assortment was equipped with «Indiglo» light, including
very simple watches for children and classical watches. «Timex» mechanisms are employed
even by «Reebok», «Guess», «Timberland» and other watches, and the signature «powered
