There were
periods when women could not boast with long and beautiful nails and that was
until the 30s of the 20th century. The Nu Nails from America paved their triumphant
way to the manicure sphere launched in 1934. Several decades later, within
70s-80s all women opted for the ultra long nails with versatile nail design
color. That was not difficult when various approaches to extend nails were
invented, such as acryl approach or modeling with synthetic hardeners that dry
easily and fast.
Evolution of stick on nails
The history
of false nails goes back to thousand years ago. So, there are facts that the
Chinese were the first to experiment with long nails: they used to stick on
false nails using fingerstalls made from silver, wax, ovalbumin and agar (gelling
agent). During the time in Europe of the
Middle Ages the nail tips cut were used to extend nails. They used to attach the
cut nails to the nail plate which looked unnatural, surely. Later on the false nails
were made from paper, flux and film strips. Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo enjoyed the false
tips from the film strip.
Some time
later all women had the chance to evaluate the safe and easy method which
allowed having beautiful and well-cared nails invented incidentally in the 21st
century. Today false nails is not something mind-striking and unusual procedure
at beauty salons, though they have the story to tell that they were invented by
the American dentist who accidentally had his nail injured and used acryl
material to correct the nail. Fred Slack realized that his discovery is
revolutionary in nail industry, and then he quitted with his dentistry and
founded the first company to launch the first false tips in 1951 to be
absolutely new product.
False tips
in 21st century
Currently the
market offers various false tips as special plates made from various materials
which are to be glued to the nail plate. Then the special synthetic material is
built up onto it, whether gel or acryl.
Acryl false
tips are the most demanded today, though. While manufactured, monomers and
polymers are used. the main disadvantage with the false tips is the need to
correct the nails in certain period of time and risk to have the nail plate
infected. Nail extension and correction procedures are recommended to be done by
professionals at special beauty salons but not at home for the sake of safety
and decontamination.
Whether gel
or acryl made, false tips cost the same at beauty salons. The gel tips differ
from acryl ones in look, durability and method of application. The gel is
spread onto the nail plate, then inserted into the box where it is exposed to
UV rays to fix. Tips are corrected once a month which is advantageous, while
unlike acryl nails, the gel tips are fragile and brittle. Gel tips are liked by
Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidmand and many other celebrities for
easy and simple procedure.
Fibered
false tips look very attractive and natural due to flux, silk, paper and glass
fiber. Such tips are the most fragile. They look very eye-striking and sexual
and there is no need to have them corrected so quickly since the nail polish or
nail design is long-lasting for such nails. The tips have drawbacks, though. When
done unprofessionally, there is the risk to have the nail plate infected and
the inflamed. The tips need to be removed to have the nails rested and breathe
from time to time.
The year
2011 announce the false tips trendy with the tiger or leopard print. The trendy
colors used for nail design include orange, black and red. French nails are
also in favor with the only correction when the nails should look well-cared
and natural.
