Perfume is the
substance and product of the humankind that is closely interweaved with the
perception of the scent and person through it. The history of perfume is the magic
fairy tale overgrown with incredible myths and legends. The celebrated fragrances
capture hearts; deeply penetrate the memory as the memory of childhood. Such memories
make us bring back the memory of those images and feelings neglected since the
time they were introduced to us. So, did the perfumers who created such
incredible fragrances suppose that their products will outlive and become the
base perfume in the 21st century?
Classic fragrances
In spite of
technologies used lately in perfumery and challenges to make the cheaper production,
when natural components are replaced by the synthetic additives, the classic fragrances
come as the foundation for group of scents. A hundred years passed and still, such
fragrances strike the fancy and demanded by women. The classic perfume ranks highly
in the Ten Bestselling Perfume in the 21st century. Perfumes like Guerlain
Jicky, Coty Chypre and Guerlain Mitsouko, Shalimar by Guerlain and Chanel №5 appeared
as first scents to create new groups of scents and entering into new epoch.
Each single perfume is the core of the image, the style of eternity they will
exist.
Jicky
Perfume
It is
deemed the ancestor of all aldehyde scents popular today. It was Jicky Perfume
but not Chanel №5 that headed the aldehyde group fragrances. Guerlain, one of
three legendary perfumers of the epoch, created the Jicky perfume. As the legend
says, the perfume was named to honor a beautiful red-haired girl, Emmanuel,
loved by the young Guerlain, and later his wife. Guerlain called her Jicky for her impetuous
temper and furious energy.
The fragrance
is unique for the first multiple scent in the history of perfumery. Floral compositions
were in favor until Guerlain was introduced. Yet, coumarin, the first synthetic
product, was first used in the fragrance. In general, it is similar to the fern
but produced synthetically. And the perfume was launched to be the father of
such perfume and unisex fragrances. The fragrance paved its triumphal way into
the 20th century.
Mitsouko Perfume
Guerlain House
continued experimenting with blending synthetic and natural components in this elegant
all-level fragrance. The perfume was called to honor the heroine of the novel Battle by Claude Farrure.
The word «mitsouko» means «mystery» or «secret» in Japanese language. The
fragrance was launched in the bottle of unbelievable beauty by Baccarat that
became the worthy package for the mysterious scent. In the middle of the 20th
century the basic composition of the fragrance with the note of the delicate
acerbity of the oak moss was replaced resulted by the decision of the
Association of Perfumers. In spite of this fact, the great grandson of
legendary Guerlain revived the composition using new components as the reputed
perfumer.
Chypre Perfume
This fragrance
gave rise to the chypre or the cypress class of perfume. It became the base for
strong scents with citric notes with the hue of oak moss and patchouli. It was named
by its key components as chypre or cypress in English. Women were fascinated
with this masculine scent.
Shalimar Perfume
Shalimar is the real legend of the East by the reputed Guerlain House.
It was named afterthefamous Love Garden in India built for the favorite
wife of the padishah Shakh-Djakhan. Thefamous Tadj-Makhal was also
devoted to the padishah’s wife, by the way. Unlike many other oriental
spicy compositions, Shalimar
opens gradually on the skin like the Indian lotus opens in the dawn. The
stunning perfume was presented packed in the Baccarat bottle.
Until now either bottle or the
composition has undergone sea changes.
In 2001 the
fragrance by Guerlain was acknowledged as the best launched classic scent at «Fifi
Awards».
Chanel №5
Perfume
The
delicate mademoiselle Coco presented the
well-known floral and aldehyde scent to the whole world for admiration, called Chanel
№5. The story tells that the composition of perfume was created by mistake of
the perfumer who added too many aldehydes to components. But the very mistake
with the strong scent of aldehyde notes was liked by Coco
to give her name to the fragrance. As the critics in perfume industry suppose,
this fragrance has been considered as the most ambiguous since there is no a
single person indifferent to it.
It is
proved in practice that scents created by brilliant people with the heart of
the epoch become classic to live in hearts of women.
