 Most fragrances launched in the epoch when the perfume industry
paved its way to the high peak of fame and luxury and fashion trends, as of the
early 20th century, live up to date, reputed and admired. So, the iconic Chanel
№5 is still one of the bestsellers among other presume composition ever

one of such fragrances is Lanvin Scandal, launched in the 30s of the 20th century

The perfume industry in France of 30s reveled fervent emotions
typical to the society of that time. The fragrances were offered under too provocative
names as Tabu by Dana House launched in 1932, the famous Shocking by Elsa
Schiaparelli released in 1937 and Scandal which is rather provocative in name
and perfume composition. The Lanvin House was then used to the tradition to
refer to provoking and challenging name on the brink, as My Sin launched in
1925 followed by many scents with loud names. The epoch and people of then were
not that liberated in clothing and behavior and, thus, such fragrances names
were too promising and naughty.
Andre Freys became the immediate designer of Lanvin Scandal
launched for market sale in 1932 to grow into the legend of the perfume
industry. Along with Ernest Beaux, the designer of the iconic Chanel №5, Andre
Freys has come as one of few perfumers who made a breakthrough in the world of
fragrances. Andre Freys was acknowledged one of the legendary perfumers in the
world for his iconic Lanvin Arpege designed in 1927 at the age of twenty seven
and five years later Lanvin and Andre Freys offered Scandal to the whole world.
Unlike Lanvin Arpege which was believed the second popular
floral and aldehyde scent following Chanel №5, Lanvin Scandal is still winning
launched a little bit later. Such success is likely related to the scent itself
when in the period of floral and aldehyde scents reigning Andre Freys offered
the Lanvin scent with the top note of leather among the others. As the most fragrances
of 30s of the 20th century, Scandal opens with the light but too rich floral
and aldehyde accord, reaching the heart of the lavish floral bouquet with spicy
accents of carnation to charm with sensuality, mature leather notes that is
base for Scandal. When the fragrance settles, the floral note gets
distinguished. According to the official classification of perfume, Lanvin
Scandal falls into the category of leather and chypre scents.
As for the scent composition, Lanvin Scandal smells quite
the same as Chanel Cuir de Russie, launched in 1924 or the later fragrance Bal
A Versailles created by the perfumer Jean Desprez in early 60s. The basic
composition of the three fragrances speaks of leather notes. However, Lanvin
Scandal never yields to and even outdoes Chanel and Jean Desprez for the warmth
and endless sensuality of harmonic match of leather and sandal aroma.
Contrasting to some extent but too fascinating blend of floral and animalic top
notes with the saturated, embracing and sensitive aroma of sandal and leather
make Lanvin Scandal luxury and magic, seducing as the evening gown with the
tempting low neck made from smooth subtle velvet as the skin by touch. Lanvin Scandal is what associated with high
heels, evening outs, sensual stockings and an affair.
Unlike the other immediate rivals as Jean Patou Joy, Balmain
Jolie Madame, Chanel №5 or the iconic Lanvin Arpege, the Scandal fragrance
failed to keep the positions it held for several decades. The Lanvin House has
put to schedule to re-launch the vintage fragrances in the nearest futureне. So,
lately Lanvin Rumeur was revived by means of new vision of perfumers and new
perception of the fragrance. The fragrance was also created by Andre Freys.
However, the Scandal seems to be neglected in this view since Lanvin discontinued
the perfume in the far 1971 and since then, this perfume is too hard to find in
the market freely. Lanvin Scandal has been added to the collection of
fragrances that became the legend for the world of perfumery.
