I wonder,
what a modern man should look like? Should he be strong? Yes, of course. Clever?
Naturally. Successful? Surely. And should a modern man be handsome? The threadbare
joke about the differeence between the man and the ape is still amusing. However,
we, having laughed to our heart's content, return home and turn our delicate
cheeks away from our husbands' kisses. Don't scratch me with your nasty stubble,
we say. What happened to your lips, we grumble. And take away your hands, they
feel like sandpaper, we utter in discontent.
So, dear men,
it's high time to shake off that narrow-mindedness and improper prudence. A fear
that somebody (what a shame!) should see you using lip balm and draw far-reaching
conclusions about your sexual orientation is nothing but a complex. A complex of
inferiority and lack of confidence. Or a fear of latent (hidden) homosexuality.
In the modern
world, success and skin care go hand in hand. It's rather difficult to imagine a
successful, self-confident businessman with oily thin hair, powdered with scurf
flakes, with skin irritation on the face and deep canyons on the lips. A successful
man has no choice but to take care of his looks or give up on himself.
And if you,
dear men, decided to adopt the thought that ‘a man of business must nonetheless
take care of his nails', you should enter into some nuances.
So, first of
all, borrowing your wife's ‘cream in that nice opaque jar' is a very bad idea. And
why, you wonder?
As many of you
might have noticed, men and women are quite different. And be assured, on the cell
level this difference is manifested more clearly than it is in the kitchen. Men
and women have different metabolism and different hormones. Even our skin has
very little in common!
Men's skin has:
-
firmer upper
(dermal) layer of skin;
-
epiderm densely
lined with oblong cells;
-
little subdermal fat deposits;
-
more
enduring connective tissues
On the one hand,
these differences give a number of advantages to the representatives of the
stronger sex. For example, men never have cellulite or stretch marks. Their skin
ages less rapidly than women's skin. However, men are not so lucky as they seem
to be. They have quite a lot of their own problems that often are more
seriously manifested. The tenderness of minor blood vessels which gives the face
that unhealthy bluish hue, overfunction of the oil glands which causes seborrheic
dermatitis and excessive sweating - yes,
dear men, it's all about you. And something else: naturally, men age less
rapidly that women. But the process is practically irreversible - oops, and the
picture in your driver's license looks fifteen years younger than the person in
the driver's seat. And your wrinkles are much deeper, and your skin sags and
that sight is far from being pleasant. How unlucky you are, you poor things.
Having
analyzed these problems and quite specific needs of men, many leading make-up
and skin care products manufacturers developed and introduced skin care product
lines specifically targeted for men twenty years ago. And, as you understand, they
are different not only by their fragrance.
Thus, make-up
and skin care products for men (like those for women) can be divided into the
following categories:
-
special cleansing
products for men: toilet soap, shower gel, cleansing towels and shampoos (you
shouldn't forget about the acid-base balance that has become a touchy issue);
-
before
and after shave skin care products: shaving gel/foam/cream, aftershave lotion or
gel (the ingredients depend on the skin type);
-
perfumes:
antiperspirant, eau de toilette or eau de cologne (which are used along with
and not instead of cleansing products);
-
facial skin
care products: toning lotions, moisturizing day cream, nourishing night cream, scrubs
(it's all about knowing how to use them sparingly);
-
foot skin
care products: scrubs, moisturizing antibacterial creams, deodorants and antiperspirants;
-
protective
skin care products: hand creams, sunscreen, lip balm.
Naturally, most
of the skin care products for the beloved men can be replaced by universal ones,
targeted for the entire family, except for the specific products like shaving
foam or aftershave lotion. However, you need to remember that all the products marked
‘for Men' are developed specifically for you, taking into consideration your
needs, moods and differences.
