The fragrance
being the Dior House perfume and one of the most claimed scents of French brand
was made only within two months in spite of New Look collection that has become
the narration. Miss Dior scent creation was inspired by the classic aromas as Chypre
de Coty, vintage fragrance created in 1917 and Vert Vert, flowery green scent
of the French Fashion House Balmain of 40s.
Miss Dior,
the first fragrance of the French Fashion House Christian Dior, was launched in
1947 after the legendary collection New Look by Christian Dior triumphed. The
new scent by Christian Dior was overseen by Serge Heftler Louiche, the friend
of Christian Dior from the childhood.
Miss Dior fragrance
is lacy and very lasting, it is based on notes of gardenia, galbanum, clary
sage, aldehydes, jasmine, rose, neroli, jonquil, iris, lily-of-the-valley, patchouli, Evernia Prunastri, sandal, vetiver
and skin. As Chypre de Coty and Vert Vert, Miss Dior retained green notes, in
perfumery composition of the scent softened with the tender fancy notes and
classic Chypre base with intensive aroma of oak moss and the tree. Like the
other models of this innovative collection New Look, Miss Dior blends the
conservative elegance with luxe as the absolutely new green accord of galbanum
and sage opened up with the luxury flowery zest of jasmine, rose and iris. This
composition is slightly eased with the light powder dash giving inimitative
elegance to Miss Dior. As compared with the other aldehydic-floral fragrances
of 40s and 50s, Miss Dior came out to be fresh. Particularly for the presentation
scent of Christian Dior the celebrated French brand Baccarat created the unique
bottle made from many-layered crystal that was so graceful and fine to match the
luxury of the fragrance.
Crucially new
formula of Miss Dior hardly served the bad turn to the perfumery debut of Dior:
Christian Dior is reported to have proposed his new fragrance to his women
associates from the high society prior to demonstrating to the open public. The
ladies cursed the fragrance but in spite of negative reaction to the scent,
Dior made his mind to launch his new work to the wide public and he did not
fail: his scent was loved from ordinary French women to the well-known
celebrities like ballet dancer Margaret Fonteyn and the actress Rita Hayworth.
Miss Dior appeared to be successful to the extent that Christian Dior was
invited by the British royal family to demonstrate the scent in London. The scent was recognized
by the celebrities of 50s like legendary Marlene Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Princess
Margaret and Windsor Duchess (Wallis Simpson who was the reason why the British
King Edward VIII rejected the throne).
Miss Dior is
not only the magnificent classic Chypre scent with the unique green accord though
the entire symbol of the late 40s with its post-military ascetic aspect and at
the same time with the hope for best future and first signs of glamour and lacy
of the new trend. Christian Dior, who believed that perfume is «must have»
component of the woman's individuality to compliment the most luxury dress,
described his debut creation, «I created this perfume to wrap every woman with
the tale of desire».
In 1992
Christian Dior renewed his legendary fragrance with the aim to correct the
business point on the US
market and increase sales rate and made the absolutely new design of the
bottle. According to the Dior House representatives, the perfume composition of
the new fragrance stayed almost unchanged, the scent failed to retain the
preliminary charm (like all classic fragrances recreated), that some time back
brought the status of the icon of 40s and 50s. To the anniversary of 100 years
of Christian Dior, Dior House launched its first «sophisticated» version of
Miss Dior in 2005 - Miss Dior Chеrie, that was devoted for the young girls but not for mature and elegant
women, that originated the series of flankers afterwards.
