A
cardigan is a sweater with the front tied, buttoned or zipped. This item of women
wear is often knitted as a single piece in a simple back-and-forth manner. It is
the woven sweater with deep V-shaped cut without the collar, with low-placed
buttons and large patch pockets. This women wear item was named after the General
James Cardigan who cared of comfort and warmth for his soldiers, providing
knitted sweaters from rough wool.
It happened in the mid-XIX, while cardigans came
into fashion some time later, only in hundred years, in 40s of XX century. By the
lapse of time cardigans became the item of fashionable wardrobe instead of just
a warmer. The knit became finer, and the sizes - smaller. In 50s the cardigans were
in vogue in Great Britain presenting elegant sweaters with small buttons. To the
end of the century the cardigans get more popular to the extent that European women
found it comfortable and fashionable to have cardigans made of wool, cotton and
even silk. The cardigan aka sweater differs from the similar jacket in its
small neckline, no collar and self-color. This women wear item has never been in
vogue to the extent to play a key role, it remained practical, and thus, all
previous cardigans were made in pastel and neutral shades. Currently the fashion
sets widen margins accentuating the unique features of cardigans and playing
around with versions. The current colors are more intensive and bright, the collar
line goes up, the buttons are bigger and smaller, and there is no need to fasten
the buttons now. The stylish belt or the strap is enough to look fashionable.
Designers are still fascinated with the concept of cardigans this season and the
Fashion House collections present cardigans from fine wool, acryl, tender
cashmere, as well as cardigans of loose knit. The trendiest model of cardigans is
the ultra-long to knees model that can be also used as the coat.
The
designers by Miu Miu come too close to the traditional cut of cardigans presenting
the sweater in the similar color with deep V-shaped cut and rarely placed
buttons at the waist line. And the conservative style may be softened by the
thin contrast waist-belt.
Designers
of other fashion houses go on introducing new ideas to the austere silhouette
and traditional color of cardigans presenting the model to comply with the
tendencies of the latest collections.
Donna
Karan model of the cardigan has the front draped like the turtle-neck. The distinctive
feature of Blumarine cardigans is the mint fur collar. Stella McCartney combines
the cardigan with the dress and presents the original model with buttons on the
waist and fluffy puffed sleeves. The adherence to bright colors and unique
tailoring of Missoni House provoked the designers to create the cardigans with pulpy
ornaments and buttons on the tail.
Tomas Maier refuses from buttons and launches
the model of cardigan close to home dress with the belt. Alexander McQueen also
denies all buttons creating the real masterpiece from the customary sweater
making the front of the cardigan in the elegant jabot and the flaps sharper.
Chloe
confirms the feature of the cardigan of the Autumn-Winter Collection to be used
as the winter coat. Breaking the stereotypes, the designers of the brand match
the cardigan with the scarf closing the neck and low neck area while the
previous models allowed the neck open. The other Chloe model is presented as the
long cardigan with over-lapping upper front fastened with a single button on
the band-collar.
We
see that margins are less contrasting and the modern cardigan is the splendid
match of the sweater and the dress, coat and the jacket, if it is partially
made from bologna.
As
for the color preferences, the designers propose to opt for either cardigan to
contrast the main image or the main item of the attire to make the monochromic
image. This case you'd better choose the solid color gamut.
