This year will be
remembered for an incredible diversity of fabrics in vogue: fluffy and knit
fabrics, leather, silk and satin. Most renowned fashion designers used these
fabrics to create their extraordinary collections to awe the audience around
the world.
Obviously, in 2010 fashion
will be wearing lightweight feathery fabrics, and therefore no wonder that fur tops
the fashion charts. In our mind, its luxurious texture and noble origin are
closely connected to dolce vita and success in life. Designers' choice of
colors for their natural and faux fur pieces is not limited to classic black,
grey or brown, there are also bright colors: green, red and purple. Trendy
jackets and coats are patchwork-colored and striped. Outerwear looks warm and
cozy, as if inviting to flaunt it in the cold winter days. Pieces like this are
found in Michael Kors, Alberta Ferretti, Guess, Bebe, Juicy Couture, Lanvin,
Nina Ricci, Givenchy, and Jean Paul Gaultier collections.
One of the things that
set many designer clothing ranges apart from cheaper alternatives is quality
fabric. Pucci dresses and separates are usually made from silk, Burberry
knitwear is made from cashmere and numerous designers are currently using a
wide range of eco friendly fabrics.
Fabrics with soft
fluffy nap are also popular with the fair sex in the coming season. Coats and
tunics, capes and dresses not only radiate luxury, but also show an incredible
lightness and airiness (Salvatore Ferragamo). These fluffy pieces look striking
in silver, powder blue and other cold tones. Shrouded in the warm and fluffy
clothing, you may defy cold weather.
In 2010, soft and delicate
textiles will be rediscovered. For a great number of skirts and pants, jackets
and dresses designers used nice-to-touch fabrics like velvets and velours,
plush and suede, the preference in color given to black and burgundy, ivory and
taupe, as seen in Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Versace and Bottega Veneta collections.
These fabrics make even the most empowered businesswomen look feminine and
sweet.
Those who are good at
knitwork will be surprised and delighted to find out that in 2010 knitwear is
as hot as ever, with its rough texture, volume and variety of ornamental
patterns. The transition of knitwear from streets to catwalk is overwhelming,
as knitted dresses and blouses, sweaters and coats, hats and scarves appear in Missoni,
Rodarte, Chanel, Malandrino, and Salvatore Ferragamo collections, among others.
For knitwear, warm earthy tones were selected with occasional bright (like
fuchsia) spots. Knitwear is great in many ways: it helps you to feel warm and
comfortable while showcasing your body and style.
Cashmere is another
trendy fabric for 2010, especially gray-brown and blue cashmere pieces. Cashmere
is the lightest and softest wool on the market so it makes for garments which
feel luxurious against the skin. Simple clean cut makes you look calm and
dignified and sets the limits for other people. Cashmere outfits are warm but
lightweight and elegant (Prada).
Leather is still
holding its position as one of the best materials for informal wear. Sexy
dresses and skirts of patent black and chocolate brown leather were the
highlights of Yves Saint Laurent collection, while Bottega Veneta and Balmain
preferred classic leather jacket and coats. However, natural materials are
favored not only by designers but by fashionistas as well.
Metallized fabrics are
also popular in 2010, especially when used in combination with dark tones
(Gucci, Balmain) or rich gold and brick hues. These outfits radiate coolness
and dark mysterious attraction, which is hard to resist.
In 2010, silk and
satin gowns will take the center stage. Silk has a beautiful sheen, is
breathable, hypoallergenic and strong. It is a good insulator, helping keep the
wearer cool in summer and warm in winter and it drapes beautifully on the body.
With a stunning variety of silk styles and colors (blue, violet, blue, deep
red, gold), everyone is sure to find a garment to their taste (Jean Paul
Gaultier, Bottega Veneta).
If you are fashion-conscious
and try to keep the pace with the current trends, you should pay attention to
the fabric and texture of the clothes you choose. And if you are considering a
designer clothing purchase, make sure it is made from a good quality fabric.
This will ensure that you get all the benefits you pay for. Outlaying a good
deal of money just to wear a brand isn't sensible, but investing in quality
garments is.
