Regardless of the footwear a woman prefers, whether
she wears high heels, wedges, or shoes with ornamental embroidery all over the
shoe surface, she should have footwear for formal occasions, because sooner or
later in her life she will face the situation when wearing stilettos or
sneakers is inappropriate. However, it shouldn't be assumed that formal or
classic style footwear is altogether boring and not versatile, since it is «classic» that stood the test of time. In fact, wearing formal
footwear is an art to master, as one has to know how to smoothly incorporate it
in one's outfit and be aware which colors and details are acceptable in formal
footwear, and which are not.
Young girls, who are still wearing denim, often
wonder
whether it's possible to combine jeans with the formal footwear. In
fact, if
you want to find matching footwear to your jeans, you better stick to
high heel
sandals. In some cases, formal footwear such as pumps can be
incompatible with trendy
jeans (especially the ones with sparkles or embroidery, patchwork or
other
detail). However, if you want to wear that solid color pumps with jeans,
pick
up classic boot-cut style that cover your ankles, leaving out only your
heels
and toes. Remember that your footwear and clothing should not be
conflicting,
and formal footwear requires elegant and understated outfit.
In the office, formal footwear is a must. Pumps and
classic shoes are the perfect choice in case of business meetings.
Classic
shoes assort to skirts, dresses, suits and elegant trousers. Avoid
wearing
these kinds of shoes when it comes to jeans or large trousers. Heels
should
also suit each of you. For example, if your feet are thick you should
avoid
spike heels or square heels because they will emphasize their thickness.
Formal shoes which are made from fabric look good
but
if you can afford it, always go for genuine leather shoes. Quality
leather has
an amazing ability to adjust to the shape of your foot and always feels
better
than synthetics. Always match your formal footwear with the outfit.
Black classic
shoes are classic, they work with any dark colored outfit. If your
outfit is in
a pastel color, try ivory shoes; soft, warm ivory usually works better
than
pure white. With a full suit, you want the nice, traditional polish
shoes to
compliment the suit. If you are dressing more casual, you might consider
a
comfortable pair of oxfords.
Avoid high heels, especially pointy ones. For all
their glamour and fashion, these shoes are the least comfortable for the
workplace. They concentrate your weight on a smaller area than your foot
was
designed to walk on, increasing pressure and often creating pinch
points. They
can make balance difficult and sink into soft materials, like sand or
turf. Go
with low heels or flats as much as possible, especially if you will
spend much
time on your feet in these shoes.
Classic footwear is a must for special occasions,
for
example, an important date at the fancy restaurant or a night in the
theater.
In the first case, shoes should be very elegant and chic, with trendy
accents,
but within reason. If you are invited to a restaurant, choose shoes
according
to the season - with closed or open toe. In early spring or late autumn
opt for
patent leather or suede shoes, but sans shining buckles or fancy bows.
For a
night in the theater, chose ultra-high heels, possibly with bold
accents, like
bow in front or patent leather stilettos with no décor except for bright
color
or metallics. Metallics are the cornerstone of a modern footwear
wardrobe and
are perfect for a dressy occasion. Every woman needs a pair of silver,
gold, or
bronze shoes in her closet. A pair of
strappy gold kitten heels with a matching gold bag is a timeless
combination
that coordinates with almost any color dress or gown and is especially
lovely
with white.
There are occasions when you have to make an
impression and to express your individuality, but keep from showing off.
For examples,
if you have an interview or a first date. Of course, no one will blame
you for
your choice of footwear for these occasions, but you may subsequently
regret
your bold choice. For these occasions, select shoes with a small
platform, an
ankle strap (see MaryJanes). This is a classic style that never goes out
of
fashion.
