High heels:
yesterday and today
The history
does not know the exact date for the high eel creation. However, first high
platform shoes were mentioned with ancient Greeks when the theater actors used
such shoes to look visually higher to be seen to any person. The marquise de
Pompadour, the officially recognized favorite of the French King Louis XV, introduced
high heels at the court, since she was very short.
There are many versions of the high heels creation.
One of version tells that heels wereattached to the boots for riding to
avoid falling into stirrups. High military boots have won the harts of
many
fashion persons in the world. In the late 17th century jersey
stockings were introduced to the wide public replacing silky stockings
and
shoes were used instead of boots.
In 1680 high
heels were set as fashion trend, especially stilettos. Ladies could walk
on highheels leaning to the cane.
High heels were the fashion trend for men, either and the trend waslike
the epidemic to spread. The kings would issue special decrees to
regulate the height ofheels according to society status. The highest
heels were the privilege of the noblearistocrats, court people and royal
family members. The legendary heel of red color that differentiated
the nobility from other classes was known for the vivid welt with the
upper
part of shoes attached to it.
During the French
Revolution the history set its own trends when comfort was appreciated higher
than glamour and luster. The female shoes looked more like the ballet flats, with
no sign of heels. Women lived on flats for almost fifty years. During the reign
of Napoleon the French court revived old corsets and hoop skirts, though high
heels were recovered a little bit later.
A famous spike
heel was presented only in 1950 when the Italian fashion designer Salvatore
Ferragamo (1898-1960) offered his own creation – spike heel after a range of
successful experiments with platform shoes. In 1952
Ferragamo came with the idea that heels would bemore durable if made from steel.
And thus, soon the fashion industry
was introduced to the steel –stiletto- high heel that has been exploited in
many shoe collections today.
The legendary
movie Billy
Wilder is the perfect chance to look at various shoes made by Ferragamo
where famous incredible Marylyn Monroe frivolously holds her skirt waving from
the wind. The stiletto shoes from this designer were extremely liked by Audrey Hepburn, Sofia Scicolone and Ingrid Bergman.

shop for another pair of high heels. The higher is the heel, the steps are
shorter ad this adds magic and temptation to the walking so attractive for men.
