Lingerie for women was just the plain underwear until the 20th century when it became the mean self-expression, as the subject of esthetic admiration. A piece of lingerie seen in between the women wear looked quite shocking to be shame and no one thought of designing luxury items based on lingerie, leaving alone works of art. Today every woman dreams of having a pair, or even more, of luxury and high quality lingerie to associate with sexuality, sensibility and attraction with male.
Psychologists state that women feel far more confident and beautiful
when they have attractive and luxury lingerie on. The term lingerie
includes many specific pieces of women wear apart from common pants and
bras, as the whole world of bodies, bikinis, bustiers, foundation
garments, petticoats, bodices, girdles, swimsuits, pantyhoses and
stockings, tank tops, underskirts, nightery and negligee, underdrawers,
suspenders and hip-kits, shirts, crinolettes and even dressing gowns.
The lingerie used to wear long time ago was different from what we have
today. Though, there were attempts to design something attractive to
accentuate the women body. So, the ancient Egyptian and Greek women used
to tie up under the bust with a piece of cloth to have it alluring.
Special devices from leather were used in the Ancient Rome for the same
purpose. In the medieval Europe the basic women lingerie was the shirt
with long sleeves called chemise. They would make it from cotton or flax
and sometimes from wool for colder seasons. During the Renaissance
Period night shifts were decorated with quilling, embroidery, goffering
and they became more complicated in tailoring. Girdles became one of the
must-have items of that period, especially the one with lacing. Girdles
were used to visually extend hips and accentuate the thinner waistline,
gently supporting the bust.
World’s Most Expensive Lingeries
Fashion designers often shock the public with their works of art based
on traditional lingerie items. So, the precious bra from the iconic
lingerie brand Victoria's Secrets was sensation even in our expert time.
About four thousand precious tiny black diamonds and rubies were used
to decorate that bra. Two pieces of black diamond of one hundred carats
each were used as a clasp in the front. That masterpiece was named The
Black Diamond Miracle Bra and estimated for the whole two million US.
Adriana Lima, one of the seducing and beautiful top models, was invited
to demonstrate it.
The girdle attracts some tingle of eroticism. Dita von Teese is known
for her love to corsets and girdles accentuating her beautiful body and
sexuality. She created the most expensive corset in the world for
ordinary wear as the gaudiest admirer of this item of women lingerie.
Her girdle was put to auction and sold for twenty thousand USD when the
common girdle costs from sixty to one hundred and fifty dollars. The
design of the girdle was not incredible in luxury: it was just decorated
with pink feathers.
Triumph, one of the German brands, sold its most expensive women string
pants at the fashion show in 2008 in Singapore. The pants were decorated
with diamonds with the largest stone to be of thirty carats value. The
brand earned one hundred and sixty eight thousand USD on it.
The swimsuit launched by the Steinmetz Diamonds Company required one
dome-shaped diamond weighing over fifty carats, one square diamond
weighing thirty carats, two round-shaped diamonds of fifteen carats and
two oval diamonds of eight carats each to be the most precious swimsuit.
All the precious stones were fixed with platinum clasps with the total
value of precious stones with platinum of one hundred and fifty carats.
As for the Guinness Book of Records, it states that the record made by
Victoria`s Secret was never beaten: the lingerie brand launched a set of
pants and bra for fifteen million USD. It took one thousand and three
hundred rubies and diamonds to trim the set.
