Every season
fashion designers offer the latest tendencies in the world of fashion
especially experimenting and presenting incredible design of shoes. The results
of designer work is eye-striking to the extent though the style is not new at
all every time. The shows preferred today is too different from that was
favorable and fashionable three-four years ago, however the trendiest style is
what was already in long time ago. When you closely examine event the scandalous
and crazy design of shoes, you strike with the idea that you have already seen
something like that somewhere in the past.
Lots of
trends in the shoe industry are introduced today from the ancient time. The most
popular is when the foot is stretched tightly with bands or strings and the
lacing technique that goes from the foot to the shin. Te Roman-styled sandals,
so popular today, were the ordinary shoes for ancient Greeks.
The flat sole
used to be fixed to the foot with the thin straps and the sandals were created.
Current summer shoes all date back from those ancient open sandals. Lately this
tradition showed all its charm when fashion designers presented shoes from
standard open-toe sandals in Roman style to more fanciful models accentuating
straps and bands.
The tradition
to wrap the foot comes from the Chinese culture, either. Centuries-old tradition
to bandage feet found its way in today’s decoration of shoes with bands and
ribbons which go up the leg to the knee.
In the year
2009 open-toe boots for autumn and winter wear were introduced at catwalks
which shocked even the most courageous women of fashion. And still, that was
not news again. The ancient Greeks enjoyed wearing endromises, such closed
boots that leave toes open.
The
tradition to walk on high heels also originated in Ancient Greece. During the
theater performances the actors used to wear shoes on high heels and platforms.
High heels
were also traditional in Asia. The eastern traditions
required meekness and obedience from women, especially in walking manner. And
such a slow walking was conditioned by the rigid wooden shoes, especially on
the higher platform sole.
The tight wrapping
of feet to kept them tiny so popular in China till the early XX century
matched well with high heel introduction. Since then women could walk freely since
the heel raised when walking. The Chinese lotus shoes had a sharp toe, soft
tissue base and a wooden heel. Walking became easier and more comfortable
though feet were deformed as earlier. Geta is still used in Japan.
They are presented as the wooden platform bencheswhich were incredibly higher before.
In the
meantime, when the Asian platform sole was designed to restrict movements, it
served for adverse result in Europe. In the
epoch of Renaissance the shoes on the thick platform sole was widely popular,
though Venice
was in the leading top position.
The swimming
city bound citizens to care of their shoes which were easily soaked in water.
The upper and richly embroidered part of shoes was left untouched since fashion
ladies walked along the Venetian streets wearing enormous though comfortable
platform soles made from wood or cork. Some of them were about half a meter
thick. Though by the XVII century the fashion undertook sea changes and the
shoes became more attractive and elegant.
During
Baroque epoch the Europeans refused wearing heavy shoes with solid platform
sole and heels in favor of soft and subtle shoes with the sharp and bent toe. Noble
men from the high society were honorable to wear them. The length of the toe
and the extent of bending told about the social status.
While the representatives
of high society enjoyed wearing shoes with pointed toes made from embroidered
velvet, the common population created their own fashion. That tendency was
especially vivid in Holland
where the wooden shoes with the bent toe were introduced for the wide public.
Today these shoes symbolize their country.
Currently the
tendency to sharp toe is still exploited by fashion designers, which is
especially seen when classic stilettos are presented. Though, lately the
tendency to the elegant pointed toe is observed and thus the motifof Holland shoes are often
practiced in shoe fashion.
With the
unique and unusual design of shoes, we should never forget the other side of
the matter. The other side of fashion has nothing to do with high heels, platform
soles, pointed toes and any other fashion stuff. Remember Russian
knee-high felt boots or Australian uggs.
There is
something common in them when the shape of the leg is repeated with the warming
function which is too practical. Peasant used to wear felt boots who faced
sever winter every year, while uggs were especially designed for shepherds from
the sheepskin.
Uggs is one
of fashionable tendencies which were introduced ten years ago though the style
was slightly reformed. Felt boots are manufactured
in Russia and Mongolia.
Today they are decorated with motifs
and trimmed with stylish lacing which makes them look as the desired accessory
for winter.
Currently
the fashion is too universal. A little bit earlier the situation was
drastically different since every single country was unique and original. The
uniqueness is not lost in every single nation, though it is slightly wiped off.
Nevertheless, the situation is not too bad since fashion traditions deeply from
different nations settled down in the modern haute couture forming the stratum
with its history.
