Austria is
absolutely a skiing paradise. Ski resorts are here found in vivid villages with
gingerbread cottages, forested mountain-sides and routes to be believed as the
best routes in Europe. Austrian ski resorts are extremely well equipped also in
this range. They are huge and small, quiet and fussy, for downhill skiers and
for snowboarders, for newcomers and for experts.
Kitzbuhel is
reputed for the place where the most complicated event of the World Cup in Downhill
Skiing is held. Thousands of kilometers of perfectly prepared ski routes offer
superb skiing conditions for every skier - no matter whether you look for an
easy slope, allowing long and wide curves or a really difficult route that will
let you rush down the hill leaving mists of fresh dust behind you. In recent
years Kitzbuhel is very popular for snowboarding and it is equipped with half-pipe
and park. It is a perfect place for the intermediates. And a great number of tourists
are attracted by unpretentious and cheap boarding houses. The cost of season ticket
for lifting includes attendance of Aquarena, Recreation Center. This is really
a nice place with two swimming pools, sauna, solarium, various health-improving
procedures. And the night life invites attention of the youth to entertain and
spend their leisure time in night clubs, cozy cafes and fussy bars.
Mayrhofen is
advised for parents spending holidays with children. The place offers perfect
services for children as swimming pools, special play ground, and well-skilled
instructors provide trainings at skiing schools. Experts say that another
advantage of the place is the direct access to the Hintertux Glacier - skiing
all year round on the 18 km
of runs. Advanced skiers could find some better skiing on the Glacier, but
still more challenging areas to recommend are the nearby resorts or the
off-piste, which is quite tempting. A snow park and a half pipe are available
for boarders, mainly catering for intermediates, though there are few slopes
for newcomers. Apart from skiing and snowboarding Mayrhofen offers much other
entertainment among which is a national dance, sleigh-riding, a toboggan run, busy
bars and lively dancing halls. You may independently make a trip from Mayrhofen
to Innsbruck by train and the local tour agency arranges trips to the
neighboring Italy.
St. Anton
offers the best expert skiing in the Arlberg region, and the most lively après-ski
scene. There are also a large number of off-piste routes in the area that
experts can explore with the help of a guide, permanent snow cover on the sunny
slopes even, good lifting mechanism and lack of queues. Another advantage is that this place is
included in the season ticket altogether with other neighboring resorts which
is surely beneficial only. It is thought to be one of the world best resorts for
snowboarders since it offers a lot of virgin slopes, natural hills, amusement
parks and 100m half-pipe. St Anton is famed with too far wild amusements, shakedowns
with window glass breaking is normal there. Night life is very busy here and men
about town go sleeping only in the morning hours.
Solden Resort
is located in the both sides of the highway at the river bank. This place offers
traditional Tyrolese architecture and beautiful lanes for downhill skiers. Routes
to Solden are mainly for intermediates and expert skiers might find the place
not so interesting. Snow boarders are offered the well-equipped park, a special
ground is offered at the Rettenbach Glacier as well. The main advantage of the
resort is skiing schools with experienced instructors to serve you. Solden is
the place for a lot of bars with alive music, there are dancing halls and night
clubs there. Night sleigh-riding is very popular with the tourists. If you feel
bored, you are welcome to make a small trip to the neighboring town, Innsbruck.
The sports center at the resort has facilities for skating or swimming.
Zell am See
is the town situated at a splendid lakeside; it is a picturesque town with beautiful
ancient center unlike the other Austrian mountain resorts. Skiing zone is not
vast though the slopes vary in range and they are fairly complicated. This resort
is hardly suitable for newcomers. Though there are perfect conditions created
for those who love cross-country skiing. Good half-pipe is arranged for
snowboarders and the Kapran Glacier near Zell am See has a lot to offer and
among them a special ground and a park for snowboarding. The tourists will love
the night life here though not so active as in St Anton.
You'd
better arrange your flights to Austrian ski resorts to Innsbruck or Salzburg. The
distance between these airports to the most remote resorts takes 160 km, as much. Large tour
companies arrange a number of charter flights there in winter.
