Year by
year the French Hotel ‘Ritz Paris' has been awarded more and more titles, like
The Best Hotel, The Hotel of the Century, The Heart of Paris, The Starry Hotel
of the World, The Ideal Dream Hotel - this list may last forever. This hotel
has already been unanimously recognized as the real legend and its walls kept an
incredible number of secrets and histories of the century. Luxemag managed to find some interesting facts
from the life of the best hotels in the world.
The Prince
of Wales appeared to be the stimulus for progress
For the
Prince of Wales the hotel ‘Ritz Paris' has always been ideal for romantic
datings. Nevertheless, the Prince could not even imagine that once «the weekend
in the pleasant company» will bring to a trouble.
This
curious accident happened in the bathroom of his room. The Prince of Wales was
having a fairly nice time with his charming partner when all of a sudden he was
attacked by a stroke and he was not able to move a finger, saying nothing of
getting out of water. A woman got afraid and started to weep right away. But
the discreetly perfect servants did not dare to break the privacy of the dating
finding nothing suspicious in female cries from the room. And who knows how this
story would end if a woman did not rush out of the room seeking for help. As it
was found later the Prince of Wales had a short-term paralysis of extremities;
he was saved, certainly, but however that story was a triggering point to the
actual technical revolution in the hotel.
After this
accident the owner and founder of the Hotel ‘Ritz Paris' Cesar Ritz got a
genuine idea to create a safety system and that was installed in all rooms in a
week already. The point of the novelty was that the hotel guests should pull a
special lace in any extreme situations followed by the alarm system on an
immediate effect. By the way, this system was at once adopted by other European
hotels.
Secret
stairs
Rare people
know of the true reasons why Cesar Ritz refused from standard hotel planning
that he was proposed during the hotel construction. The ‘Ritz Paris' founder
collected the individual staff of engineers, constructors and architects and
proceeded to work. As a result of long month work and patience the hotel was designed
with enormous number of passages, long galleries, small saloons and unusual
stairs.
Involved in
the construction activity Cesar Ritz surely remembered that the hotel is
assigned for high-rankers and very important routs and functions therefore he decided
to apply physics, optics and geometry rules. All in all a legend was born about
miraculous hotel stairs. The guests were impressed by people coming down or up
the front staircase; they seemed to be radiant with heavenly beauty. The secret
was in the favorably selected illumination, location and pitch of staircase.
Besides the
owner was aware that not all his guests want to be publicly recognized,
therefore he stipulated secret stairs with secret passages. No one could say
definitely how many celebrities used and still using tricks invented by Cesar
Ritz.
The famous
American writer and prize-winner of the Nobel prize in literature Ernest
Hemingway was a real admirer of the hotel ‘Ritz Paris'. In accordance to him,
the only excuse for the fact that you were in Paris and did not stay at ‘Ritz',
could be only total lack of money. During a long time the writer was not able
to come to Paris and sincerely missed his lovely ‘Ritz Paris'. Immediately
after the war Ernest Hemingway with his wife Mary hurried to visit France. And
for the one thing he gathered his friends and arranged a party in the bar of
the ‘Ritz Paris'. Mary did not like that idea very much and she was really
anxious with the careless attitude of her husband to alcohol (alcohol was a
frequent cause of quarrels between the spouses). Then Hemingway decided for the
practical joke to do with Mary. Together with the hotel barman he made a
cocktail from vodka and tomato juice, spiced with a number of aromatic spices. And
it was impossible at all to taste the alcohol in there! Thus, the writer
managed to make his wife drunk. Afterwards he got no reproaches from Mary forever.
And the invention of Ernest Hemingway gave the world the cocktail named «Bloody
Mary».
Ritz in the
Guinness Book of the World Records
A few years
ago the statement that high prices in the hotel ‘Ritz Paris', in general, do
not surprise anyone was disclaimed in an unusual way. The hotel bar offered to
its guests a cocktail with the recipe kept in secret. This drink was in a great
popularity and not because of taste but the price! The Sidecar cocktail cost 300 pounds. And after
that cocktail was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records the recipe
was disclosed to public. As appeared, all is simple that is genuine. The
cocktail ingredients included orange curacao, lemon juice and elite cognac
‘Ritz Fine Champagne' 1870, thanks to which the cocktail was famous with its
price.
